Good efficiency from our guys and Besaw has a big game.  If he doesn't go pro after this season, I don't know what an early entry looks like.

In the Final Four, we face Washington, coached by an old rival, djbrewer0808.  They are another extremely talented team, but came in to the NT as a 7 seed.

Small advantages in nearly every category, in this game.  The big difference, I guess, was our 3-point shooting.  Also, Jesse Besaw is amazing.

In the Championship, our fellow #1 seed, Texas A&M.

Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Granted, I'm not really the coach at this point, but one of my teams finally wins a DI Championship!  112 seasons have been played under the colorblind79 name, with a good chunk of those in DI, with multiple Championship appearances, something like a dozen Final Fours, and yet this is the first time that we've broken through.  Wow.  Awesome.

Coach, I've got some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that the campus burned to the ground last night after you brought a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP to Maryland. The good news is that nobody cares because you just brought a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP to Maryland!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I was right, you're a media 'darling' right now. You really should consider striking while the iron is hot, you just never know when another opportunity like this will come along. If I were you, I'd be moving up - nobody will blame you. I think Pete Bailey would find that I'd be a great head coach if you left.

As if there's anywhere better to go...

In other news, Jesse Besaw is coming back for his senior season.  Crazy, right?  We are losing Glenn Fickes to the pros, and James Troxell is quitting the team because he's not good enough to have been receiving PT over some of our other players.

Coach, this decision has been keeping me up for weeks but when it comes down to it, I can't risk getting hurt and jeopardizing an NBA career, so I'm declaring early.

Best of luck,
Glenn Fickes

#5 PG, #29 Overall, *****; no promises.  John Whyte is slightly unrefined offensively but that will change.  He will be a pass-first PG with good (but not great) speed and great athleticism, who will be an excellent rebounder for the position, and he should be a good defender who will only struggle against the quickest guards.

#15 PG, #60 Ovearll, ****; some guaranteed minutes, but currently in a "battle" with Virginia for him - he'll sign at some point but VandyDave does not give up on quixotic ventures...I am so certain of the signing that I'm just going to put him up here even though it hasn't happened yet.  Anyways, his big shortcoming is his work ethic.  If that were at 30 instead of 15 he'd be an absolute slam dunk of a starting guard, for as long as he chose to stay.  As it is, he probably won't develop all that much, but he's already pretty good when ignoring system IQ, so could be a Terrell Stoglin (as a Freshman, if reading this in the future) type, coming off the bench and looking for his own shot.

[edit:] he signed at the 2 PM cycle.

#3 PF, #24 Overall, *****; no promises.  Jerry Foss is a role player.  He'll never be an offensive threat of note, but he will defend and rebound well, and won't turn over the ball too often.  In other words, he's an ideal teammate for a more scoring-focused big man (like a Theodore Mizer, for instance), and a great complementary part.  If we're very lucky, he might even stay for 4 years, due to his offensive shortcomings.

#8 C, #55 Overall, ****; JuCo Jr., no promises.  Robert Clark knows the Flex/Man very well already, so he's set to be plugged in to the lineup, possibly as a starter, immediately.  He's already a very good player with no weaknesses.  His FT shooting should be a C+ or so, which is adequate even if it isn't outstanding.  Really a very good player who should make an immediate impact, either as a starter or as the 6th man.
12/20/2010 1:54 PM (edited)
The new recruits are all worthy additions to a good team.  This may be my favorite recruiting class of all time, including Robert Clark in particular who may help the team recover from the loss of Derek Phillips on an immediate basis.  Granted, he doesn't have Phillips' speed or FT shooting, but he brings something to the table as a ballhandler and has some offensive game away from the basket.

The new guards can chip in immediately and be able to come on in full force next season, with the graduation of Champ and Clay.  Foss has to learn the system but he's already very talented and will only improve.

While technically the guys are not all five star players, I have to say that I think both Clark and Maas were great fits for the team, so this time, I'm giving the recruiting class an A+.  Fitting, after a championship.

I guess I'll follow the team closely this year, since it's a rather exciting group and we get to see a full year of Besaw in action as a senior, which is crazy.  Anyways, preseason game #1, which revealed that the depth chart had not been updated, but also that 8 of our guys can do a lot of damage:

In the play-by-play for the second exhibition, whenever he was on the floor it was all Besaw, whether it was a miss or a made shot.  Luckily he is so good he makes about as much as he misses.  This was against the 7th ranked team in DI.  The rest of the team wasn't quite as dominant as against Iowa, but again, this was against the 7th ranked team in DI.
