Vancouver Canadians and #9.  I do have one question, you mention that when you replace/cut a player, you replace with someone from the next season. But if we're twisting that player anyway, will anyone really cut someone who has any eligible season left?  Are you going to keep a separate log so you know how many times Babe Ruth (for example) was used by an owner?  You won't know by just looking at which season was used in the most current season of our league. I'm definitely willing to give it a try, just trying to wrap my mind around it being both progressive and twist-league.

I re-read the rules and think I understand - you only twist ONCE after each player is initially drafted?  After that initial twist, it becomes a progressive and you must use each consecutive season (ie. no twisting after your initial twist)?

That is correct, welcome hoopsrus!

Using your example, do I understand correctly that in the 1915 round of the initial draft, only players who were rookies in 1915 are eligible to be taken?

Yes - during any draft, only rookies can be drafted, but then they can be twisted to start with any year of their career

How about one more twist - whoever gets to pick 1st in each round gets his choice of the remaining draftable years to use for that round.

No, I want to do the draft by season.

Round 1 - 1915
Round 2 - 1921
Round 3 - 1935
and so on....

Some seasons you'll be drafting towards the top, some towards the bottom.......
It will depend on your number you choose and what the draw ends up being. Strictly chance......
So everyone will have a bit of different strategy to use for each season.

In your example above, who drafts 2nd in 1915? - the person who picked #1, the person who picked #2, or the person who picked 1921?, or the person with the next number after the person who picked 1915?

This is just an example on how the draft will go:

Random Draw Numbers: 5, 18, 7, 6, 22, 23, 1, 20, 9, 14, 11, 13, 12, 19, 16, 10, 17, 15, 3, 21, 8, 2, 24, 4.

Team 5 picks 1915 and Babe Ruth
Team 18 picks 1907 and Walter Johnson
Team 7 picks 1911 and Pete Alexander
Team 6 picks 1986 and Greg Maddux
and so on... up to
Team 4 picks 1903 and Mordecai Brown

So, on the 1st day Team 5 starts with taking his season and player. After he picks Team 18 does the same, all the way through to Team 4 picking the 24th season that we will use.

After the 1st round, everyone will have nominated a different season and picked 1 player from their season. The 1st round will be done off-the-clock to give everyone enough time to research different seasons in case the season they wanted gets picked before their slot comes up.

The 2nd day, Team 18 moves up 1 spot and picks from Team 5's 1915 season. Team 7 will pick from Team 18's 1907 season. Team 6 will pick from Team 7's 1911 season and so on... all the way up to Team 5 dropping down to picking from Team 4's 1903 season.

The 3rd day, Team 18 drops to Team 4's 1903 season, Team 7 moves up to pick from 1915, and so on...

You will always make a pick everyday from a different season. I will have each season setup with everyones turn scheduled in for whatever season they move to.
I will do another random draw to pick the 25th season between 2001-2010 and use a different random draw for the order for that 25th season.

So I finally had some time to comb through the rules and came up with a few snags.

In the initial draft, we're only drafting rookies. Does this mean WiS database rookies or first year in the majors rookies?

In subsequent seasons, when two owners both make a cut from the same year (say 1934) and are drafting from the same pool of rookies (the 1935 rookie class), what determines draft order?

I thought I had a lot of spare time lol - but seriously, this is a great concept. I can't wait for it to get going

In subsequent seasons, when two owners both make a cut from the same year (say 1934) and are drafting from the same pool of rookies (the 1935 rookie class), what determines draft order?
Since researching Rookies from the draft center is much easier using WIS database "first season" players that is what we'll use to determine rookie status.

In subsequent drafts if more than 1 person drafts from the same season a random draw will determine order. Each season will have it's own draft, so if there are 3 owners drafting from it, when all 3 have made their pick it is over.

Let's say you are cutting 3 players and will draft 3 new players, 1 each from 1920, 1940, and 1960 just to make it easy. There are 3 other Teams that are drafting from 1920 also. You and the 3 others will get a random draw for draft order for that season. Let's say you got put in the 3rd spot. You will pick on the 3rd day of the draft from 1920. For 1940 you are the only one drafting from that season so you can make your pick for that season the 1st day. For 1960 there are 9 owners drafting. You got the 8th spot in the draw so you'll draft on the 8th day from 1960.
