What a joke. 70 teams & bailing is irresponsible. He joined a 2003 league I'm in & within a week, traded Greg Maddux, then traded Curt Schilling for Doug Davis straight up. Wasn't in the league 2 WEEKS before he left & his team is in shambles. If real life issues are the reason as suggested, he shouldn't have had that many teams which impact so many leagues. Him staying away would be the most prefered choice.
Close, but not entirely accurate, kaspro.
I believe you are speaking about the Real Life Progressive... and the trades you describe were made just before the All-Star break of the 2002 season. Shaw's team was not doing particularly well and rightly or wrongly, he opted to accept trade offers which included draft picks. My team acquired Curt Schilling and a 4th round pick in exchange for Paul Wilson and my 1st round pick in 2003. Shaw then made a deal with a division rival to sending Greg Maddux and a 2nd round pick in exchange for Doug Davis and a 2nd round pick. (Just felt the need to clarify how the trades went down).
I don't believe that the Maddux/Davis deal was the best deal he could have found, but the deal was made and was open to veto by other owners. (I don't recall whether any vetos were cast -- there may have been)
Regardless, I do agree shaw has hurt the numerous leagues he has gone missing from; but do any of us know the reasons for the departure? I doubt it.
