if we have below average AAA 24 teams works great in 1970 -

the league I run started in 1969 with 24 teams and never has PA/IP problems - I wouldn't stay for a 16 team league as that becomes a hall of fame league - I'd stay for 20, but would greatly prefer 24.
I agree with this.  Im not staying for a 16 team league.  I know everyone is anxious cause its been forever but Im not getting in a league just because Im tired of waiting.  I will stay for 20 but prefer 24.  If people are insistant on 16 teams, then I suggest changing the year from 1970 to an earlier year when there were less teams.

pfattkatt is in, thanks.

Keepers- After we fill I'll put the # of keepers up for a vote, options will probably be 25 (no cuts), 20, or 15.

League Size- Given the strong sentiment against 16 teams we will go with at least 20, I think we can get to 24 though so may not be an issue any way.  We now have 15 in, I'm going to give the 9 who previously signed up but have not confirmed a few more hours then open it up to everyone.

Trade vetoes- will be 6

Thanks. Maybe try site mailing them. We may get lucky. I also have a suggestion. Arbitrarily assign us to NL or AL, and interleague play in a 24 team league. Allow any ballpark selection, from any era, but unique ballparks. I think this can create  more interesting, more diversified play. And, as we draft a player, roll the dice so that we know what we are dealing with. We must accept the results, but suppose the dice consistently work against one or two guys? I realize the randomness could help, but I'd like everyone to have a fair chance from day one, at least as much as is possible. Just some thoughts, this should be a real fun league.

This is just what I was looking for! How do I get in.

I am very commited to this time period because I think this was the best Ermra of the game. It produced 4 classic World series and the dynasty teams of Oakland,, Cincy, and the Yankgees return to tge game. I went to tge 77 world series in LA. Sand the All Star game in San Diwgo in 1980. Saw Randy Jones, Rollie Fingers, Wille McCovy, Bench, Ryan just to name a few.

Very nice ebowco, great experiences.  I was a kid in the '70's so most of my baseball memories from that time are fuzzy but it will be cool to cyber draft and manage those players.  You are in, I have opened the league to the public.  I sitemailed the 9 unknowns one more time to let them know, hopefully some of them will jump back in though I suspect at least a few will not.  For now we have 16, only need 8 more.

pfattkatt- Thanks for the suggestions, here is my opinion/ruling, subject to Harrelson's input:

Ballpark selection- I can go with allowing any ballpark from any era but would prefer that owners choose AL or NL for themselves.  As owners select ballparks we will track the AL/NL distribution and when 12 parks from one league are taken remaining owners will have to choose the other league.  That will allow owners to choose a ballpark they like and whether they want to use the DH (from 73 on) and will add some strategy to the initial draft since owners will need to decide how important being AL/NL is to them and figure out how long to wait before drafting a ballpark.

Interleague- For the first season let's keep it historic (no interleague), though we can consider going to it at some point in the 70's instead of waiting until the 90's.

For the die rolls I think I would prefer that we draft full rosters 1st and then roll, but I'm open to changing that if a majority are in favor.  Not sure what Harrelson's original thinking was on this, I don't think he specified.

This is my first theme league. What do I need to do to get set up.?

right now we just sit and wait for the league to fill -

this being your 1st theme league, and most importantly your first progressive, I would read as many threads as you can about them, mainly progressives as they are a lot different than open leagues and theme leagues.

I would begin researching the database - set your draft search for 1970 players and research their careers -how in depth you go is up to you - some owners keep spreadsheets of every season.  Remember that based on your roll, your player may "RE-gress" - before the 1970 season, so do your research!

ronblood and spoonfed are in, giving us 20.

ebowco- When we fill I'll announce it here and send sitemails to everyone.  The draft order will be determined randomly (randomizer.org).  The initial draft order is serpentine, i.e the order is reversed every round.  The 1st round is untimed (within reason, if someone takes more than 24 hrs I start thinking about either taking the highest salaried player available for the absent owner or replacing him).  The rest of the draft will use timed slots, for rounds 2-3 there will probably be one hour time slots (12 picks a day) and then for rds 4-25 1/2 hour slots (24 picks a day).  As long as everyone has picked ahead of them owners can pick ahead of their time slot.  So for round 1 you just wait until your turn comes up, for rounds 2 and 3 you will take a pick every other day, for 4-25 you will take one pick a day.  After the 1st round you will know what time of day your pick will be up.  Usually the slots are from around 8 am EST to 7 pm est.

Once everyone picks, a league number will be given out and you enter your team using the theme leagues? option (don't remember exactly what it's called, it's the bottom choice).  Then we just play the season out like a regular league.  After the season is over cuts/keepers will be announced and then we will draft again.

As chargingryno said only thing to do now is wait for the league to fill and start doing draft research.  Before a draft I go ahead and start a new team (just choose the regular league option and then change it to theme league when we are finished drafting) and put my drafted players on it so that as the draft progresses I can see how many ab's and IP's I have and how my position depth looks as we draft.

admin actually won't set up a private forum until the season starts.  So the initial draft will be held in the theme league forum.

Thanks chargingryno for the info about private forums

Hi,

Id like to be a part of this. If you have any teams left im in.   Im doing my first theme league now and would like to do a progressive league.  I like the idea of the random keepers with regards to years.  Makes it very interesting.. Some of your percentages are wrong with regards to dice probabilities.  Reason i know is because im a dice dealer in vegas.  AS resgards to the draft i usually work weekends so how would the draft work.  what day are you looking to have it.

Hi lvdiceguy (perfect name for this league, of course).  I fixed the die %'s, thanks for the heads up.  Here is some info about the draft from an earlier post:

"When we fill I'll announce it here and send sitemails to everyone. After the 1st round you will know what time of day your pick will be up. Usually the slots are from around 8 am EST to 7 pm est.

Since we will be drafting 25 players I will probably keep the clock on during the weekends.  If you are not able to pick during your time slot you can send a proxy list to someone who will be able to pick at that time.  For example, if you are 5th for the next pick you would send a list of 5 players in order.  Usually you can ask here who will be able to select proxy's and/or send them to the person picking after you (though that person might be late as well).  If you miss your slot and did not send anyone proxys you just pick as soon as you can, no big deal except you miss out on whoever was picked in the meantime.

I actually have a private forum but I am not using at the moment as that league died we can use that because that will probably make it easier to have a unified place. if you can send me a list of all the owners and I will get them access to that right away
