Graphical results instead of text results Topic

So the objection is more about the use of WIS resources then.  I addressed that point above with my opinion but I certainly respect the opinion on the other side of that coin.

But the objection regarding "having to turn graphics off" I guess is a result of my not explaining good enough.  Currenlty you have to click the "???" to get a seperate box to pop up with your play by play.  What I am saying that instead of have just the "???", you would have a second link for "LIVE" (or whatever you want to call it).  Clicking that link would pop open the flash version of the play by play.  Sorry I didn't explain better.

Check out this link:  http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2010_07_26_nyamlb_clemlb_1&mode=gameday.  This is an example of the kind of thing I"m talking about.  How would this be a determinent to the game and drive off users?  I'm baffled.

While this is obviously something that's not needed and would undoubtedly create issues for some, haven't you said "Just ignore DITR if you don't like how they work"?

Shoot the idea down because it's something a child, one without the funds to buy a team, would request not because ignoring it means it's not worthy.

MikeT, trying to understand your point. You are saying, I think, that it's not needed and would only appeal to a child? I agree with the first part. It's not "needed". I'm just saying it would be cool. I disagree that it would only appeal to a child. I bet if it was an option, the majority of all owners would choose to view results in this manner.

I'd like to see your research on this one.

I think of this as something like the celebrations with the mascot in NCAA 10.   You do them once just to see them all and never do it again.   It's "fun" the first time and an ignorable feature after that.

Yeah, you are probalby right as originally presented.  However, what they do at MLB.com (see link above) I think would be a something people would prefer.

You could do this by developing a program that someone would download and run on their computer. All that would need to be sent over the interwebs is the text/code for what happened. with all the graphical stuff already downloaded it wouldn't require much bandwidth to run. It would be completely optional for those who wanted to use it. If you don't want to use it, don't download the application.

Sports Interactive has done something similiar with their Football Manager Live application where they have representations of Football(soccer) matches in both 2D and 3D in a dynasty type game just like this.

I imagine that this would be pretty difficult.  If they worked with a game designer (Like EA) they could use their engine, making it easier.  Although that would likely run a pretty penny, and the amount of data would be HUGE.

If you're looking for something more interactive, it would be way easier to just have audio.  Like you're listening to the radio.  Yes, some of the phrases would be used all of the time, but I think it's something that would be more manageable.

I'm not talking like a video game representation. Just something like a 2D representation for the field.

Goalline Blitz did this for a football simulation... it's been going on for  a number of years and is a pretty good game.  I believe that there is a similar baseball game as well.
That said, it would be a pretty massive undertaking to convert WIS's games to this, and I'm sure would require much more server-space than they currently have.  I can't imagine their ROI would warrant it.

I asked WIS about this a while ago, my first idea was to do something really simple as drawing 4 white lines in a shape of a diamond and have red dots running around the bases, maybe add names to the dots or something. I'm sure that wouldn't take all that much work or resources. Later on they could easily improved on little by little with each season. It would be the coolest thing ever if instead of reading the box score we could actualy watch the game play out on a simple 2D field.

The problem is that I am sure this will eat up a ton of computer power as each person sits and watches their games being played. That would slow down the entire web site (which at times runs too slow as is) and people would start geting furstrated and quit. however, if it could be done without performance problems and as an option only for those that want toi see it, I think its a neat idea.

All you would need is to download a program with all the graphical stuff, 2D as I think we are all pointing out. Then have the program read the code from the site, the actual text play by play, and the program would process that and display it as the 2D display.

I use to play sim baseball on CSFBL.com, you can watch your games play out on a very simple and cheese 2D field. The graphics suck and all but it's fun watching the games. HBD is much deeper, much more realistic and much better than that site but someone from WIS should check that one feature out and create something similar.

There are many more things needed to be done before this.  For example noting Triple Crown winners on player profiles :) Or highlighting League leading stats on the Player Profile.
