A Better Amateur Draft (aka the Pujols Problem) Topic

So what are you changing again?   If there's virtually no chance a team can get less BL players than now, there's virtually no chance a team can get more BL players than now.   Since nothing will really change as far as the distribution of talent, what's the point of your elaborate plan?
I think you're supposed to rank twice as many players for the chance to get roughly the same amount of ML prospects as you do now, except some of those might come in round 8 or 10 instead of 1 or 2. This should be a lot more fun, evidently.

So twice the effort for the same result.    And the joy of saying "Yeah, I know I didn't get anyone in rounds 1-7 but look at my 8th rounder!!!!"

Yeah, that does sound like a lot of fun.   Maybe they can program coach hiring differently while they're at it.   Instead of checking in every 4 hours to see the result, coaches will respond every two hours.    And games every 16 hours instead of every 8.

More work required to get random results.  Well done.

If you look up "fun" in the wiktionary that the definition.   More work, random results.

Not entirely random; on draft morning, it'll look like half your draft picks have ML potential, but it'll take 3-9 months before you realize that most or all of them will never sniff the bigs.

Or, in other words, you won't notice the turd in your sandwich until you've been chewing it for a little while. Again, this should be a lot more fun.

Sweet.  I'd love to find out that I have no chance of ever competing after I've spent a year of my time and a cool $100.

This part of the chat board should not be called "suggestions." It should be called "Let's see how Mike and a few other people will snarkily distort your idea to defend the status quo." or "Let's see how Mike and a few other people can snarkily distort your idea, so that no legitimate conversation of that idea can follow."

Dammit sandy, do NOT make me revive the dumb idea thread.

sandyvag, if your suggestion sucks, don't get all mad because people say "No, this sucks!"   And why single me out?   Half a dozen people have said "No, this sucks!"

Good ideas stand up to scrutiny. And sometimes the scrutiny nudges the discussion toward an even better application of said idea.

Also, grow a pair; this is the Internet.

HBD is, what, 6, 7, 8 years old...something like that?  Given the amount of development and improvement the game has seen, it should be no surprise that many of the ideas that get proposed may not be a great idea for various reasons that WIS may have already considered and rejected.  Many folks throw an idea out there without considering all the possible dominoes that fall afterward.

Well, this thread exploded. I am going to have to wade through it over the next week or so.

This is going to be probably my first post on these forums...I think it would be good if the scouting system changed.  For example you your 20m budget then divide it among  positions like scouting Starting pitchers(8m), Relief pitchers(3m), infielders(5m), outfielders(4m) etc...this way you see the majority of that position where your team is weak instead of having 4 BL players in your farm system that play 2nd base and were drafted because they were the best avialable(yes I know you can rank them different, but I think it's better to keep the value and maybe try to trade it later instead of getting a lower quality player).

Patrick, if you go to my lengthy post at the bottom of Page 2, you'll get the gist of the idea. I'd be happy to discuss with you further via sitemail.
