Setting Budgets AFTER Free Agency Period Topic

Yea, no.
You know you need X prior to budgetting (or should). You budget for X. You either get X in FA, or you minor league system, or through trade.

Disagree with this premise.
Exactly. You know what you need. You know what is projectd to be in the free agent market. You know roughly what they are going to be getting from prior free agent contracts and you budget accordingly.  If the guy you are targetting goes over what you planned for you either find someone else on the market, or you trade for someone else.

You can't just all of a sudden, the day before the draft lists come out,  stick $20 mil in HS/College. That's totally unrealistic.

Here's where that's wrong.  You DON'T know what player X is going to go for...  you only know what he's asking.  If he's asking 3 years at 6.8 million, he could easily go for (and did) 3 years at 11 million.  I would've gladly paid more than that for him, but it wasn't in my budget, because of the flexibility.

Could I have taken the 15 million out of my prospect budget and get some more cash?  Sure, but I wouldn't have been able to field a RL team .

The 50% transfer fee is too high and the rigidity of the budgets is handcuffing.  I think the game would add another dimension by allowing flexibility in a few of the categories.
You want your cake and you want to eat it too.

No way.

Essentially you're asking that Budget Day be moved to the day before ST starts.   So you're asking that one be allowed to bid on FA, make deals and complete the R5 before setting the budget.   What you're not considering is how knowing what your opponents are doing, and who they acquire, will affect what you do.   If I start the season thinking I'll contend but see my primary competition going heavy in FA and trading prospect for vets, I may just change my mind.   if a dozen owners do the same, and they should be monitoring the same thing I am, there will be no 80-83 win teams.   You'll have 90-95 win teams and 70-75 win teams.    The season will be over for half the world before it begins.

death, where does that rate on the Fun Scale I invented?

Not sure, but on the Original Copyrighted More Fun Scale that I, alone, invented, it's below better DITRs, but above animated results.

You need to revive the "Dumb Ideas" thread that disappeared during your incarceration.

It's no fun without Arlen to kick around.

Maybe it will draw him back.  Like flies to a pile of poo.

In response to the Fun Scale, I have now implemented a the official Forum Jackass Scale.  So far deathinahole is barely above MikeT23.  Come on mikey, you can be number 1 if you just try a little harder!

HAHAHAHA, apollo recognizing guilt by association.

And deathinahole starts to put distance between himself and mikey...stay tuned folks, this should be a close race!

Just to revive a dead topic so that I can get made fun of, too - can someone (anyone?) give me a valid simulation reason (this is supposed to be a baseball simulator of sorts, right?) for the 50% transfer fee between coach payroll, prospect payroll, and player payroll?  Is someone on my staff skimming off the top?

It's a penalty for poor budgeting.
