When you do that, you risk the guy signing on the cycle that you figure out someone else's bid - with the other team.

Yes, but I've never seen a free agent only act upon one cycle like that... They usually give every team the chance to counter-offer.

No.  I never did get that message.  If I had to guess why.... I would assume the he bid 10,500,000 or something close to that... was trumped by my 10,980,00... and he then went over and slowly lowered his bids back down to 11,000,000.

And yes, you should be able to rescind an offer...but not lower it.

I see no problem with it.

I thumbs up the concept of a player telling you to go screw yourself if you keep lowering the bid, but haven't quite grasped how to have the AI do that.

Probably some combination of the amount of times you do it, the player's patience, and how much above the next closest bid you are.

One bid and one bid only for IFA.  Solves all problems.

Dislike

What problems does this solve? That idea is barely practical, let alone realistic. It isn't realistic at all.

It solves all problems.  Didn't you read it?

No more increasing/decreasing bids.   No more having the top offer until the last cycle and being outbid without a chance to match.    No more screwing around for 6 days wondering if he'll sign.

And it's far more realistic than a bidding war.    Look at the MLB internationals.  Closed bid to the current foreign team for the RIGHT to negotiate.   You don't see the Yanks offering 35m to negotiate with Dice-K only to have the Red Sux bid 38m only to have the Angels bid 42m so the Sux can bid 51m.    Interested teams submit an undisclosed offer and it's done.

Yea, I'm ok with that too. For Ints only, not FAs.
Or my idea.

How can you be sure he didn't offer $11,000,000 on his own? It's a nice round number, and not wholly random. It's not like he did the Price is Right approach and won with $10,980.001.

He could have, but that's aside from the wholistic concept of "is it realistic to bump down IFA offers until you find the lowest number?"
