In game position switches by manager Topic

You are under the false impression that having a player set with a secondary position will cause the sim to move them to that position.  At present when a pinch hitter comes into the game he will only take the field at the position of the player he replaced, no matter what your backup position settings dictate.  THAT is the issue.

Now I said earlier that you can't fix stupid, so we'll see if he understands now or not....I'm guessing not.

Look at his team. He has three guys with 2ndary positions set. The rest are one position players. That's what double closed the thread. Then Mike triple closed it. It should have been quintuple closed by now.
Why are you looking at my team?  The situation I presented was a hypothetical situation to demonstrate an issue with the game, not an example from an actual game I played.  This has nothing to do with how my teams are currently configured.

Again, you don't even understand the issue, and until you do, you really should follow your own advice and STFU.

8th inning.

Nomura (1b) pinch hits for Bravo (C)
Rapp (CF) pinch runs for Astacio (1b)

Nomura remains in the game AT 1B. Not catcher. Not SS. FIRST BASE.
Baker enters the game AT CATCHER.

It's called a double switch, dumbass. It's in the management console.

OH MY GOD!!!! AND HOW DID THE SIM KNOW!!!!! IT MUST HAVE READ MY MIND!!!!!

THANK GOD FOR SECONDARY FIELDING POSITIONS TOO!!!!
1/26/2012 11:50 PM
Again dumbshit, not the issue.  I give up.  It's true, you really, really can't fix stupid.
1/26/2012 11:51 PM
Okay, so it tied in the bottom of the 9th.  My pinch hitter with very poor fielding comes in for my second baseman and ties the game.  Now we go to the 10th, and my poor fielding pinch hitter is playing second base, BECAUSE I, APOLLO, DID NOT GIVE IT ANY OTHER OPTION. PLEASE SOMEONE, TEACH ME. TEACH ME SOME GAWDAMN SENSE. PLEASE. I'M BEGGING YOU.
1/26/2012 11:53 PM
MY GOD YOU ARE STUPID.   EVEN IF THERE ARE PLAYERS IN THE GAME WITH 2B AS A BACKUP POSITION, AND EVEN IF THE PINCH HITTER CAN PLAY THEIR POSITION, THE SIM WILL NOT SWITCH THEM.   THE BACKUP POSITION SETTINGS ARE NOT USED.   THAT IS THE ISSUE.  GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY YOU ARE A ******* IDIOT.

A double switch brings in yet another player from the bench to play C.  What apollo is talking about is switching a player's position who's already in the lineup.

An example:

Top of the 9th inning,  Smith (1B/LF) pinch hits for Jones (2B).  Let's assume, for the purposes of this example, that there are no 2B type players available on the bench.

Bottom of the 9th, Fraser (LF/2B) moves from LF to 2B, and Smith plays in LF

That's a better defensive alignment than keeping Smith in at 2B, isn't it?

Ok I looked.  It doesn't seem to happen much.  I back off my statement that it happens often.  Please forgive me.
So do we now agree on this?

"But, again, the minimal impact on gameply, unrealistic fielding in HBD and the "infrequent" occurance in MLB makes this a suggestion not worth having."

Or, at the very least, everything but the last three words?

You didn't answer this.

Nor did you apologize for implying that I was tossing around personal attacks when I obviously haven't(but I certainly seem to be having a few thrown my way by the OP).

And death should focus on his own team...

Seneca, Mercado, and Parrish all came into games at positions they weren't supposed to play.

Not, nyet, no.
There's a thing called a lineup.
You know what's awesome?  That even when smacked in the face with facts, you still don't understand.

Probably why you suck at this game.

John Seneca pinch hits, then stays in the game at 3B (not a listed position for him):www.whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/Boxscore.aspx
Vic Mercado same thing: www.whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/Boxscore.aspx

I think that's enough to show that you're full of it.

Okay Mikey, you have made your point that you don't think its worth the effort.  You can go now.  No further pot stirring required.   Go troll a different thread.

And given your history, you are the very last person in the entire forum that either deserves or should expect an apology from anyone at any time.

Arrogant.  Dismissive.  Hypocritical.

I think we can officially close this thread since it got derailed several pages ago.  To wrap up:

1) I think we all agree that there's an issue with how simmy handles defensive replacements when there's no direct replacement available.
2) There's some disagreement on how big a deal this is, but for the most part we all agree that it doesn't happen that often.
3) We all seem to agree that a fix is doable, but disagree on whether or not it's worth doing.
4) death is an idiot.

Did I miss anything?
