For the 78th time (or so) . . . it takes a progressive tax rate out of the equation.  A simple rule that applies to everybody, rich or poor.

Is that so hard for you to understand, or are you intentionally acting dense?

I honestly don't understand.

Look at the example you gave before with the 75K exemption. That's still a progressive tax system (a guy making 100k a year pays a higher percentage of his income than someone making 60k a year), it's just curved differently than what we have now.

If the outcome is exactly the same (everyone paying what they paid before), both systems are equally progressive.

In a progressive tax system, the tax rate changes according to your income bracket.

My system doesn't do that.  It's one tax rate.

Max((Income - exemption), 0) * taxrate = what you pay in taxes.

Seriously, this is difficult for you to understand?

In your example, what's the tax rate for someone making $45,000 a year?

The same as it is for somebody making $10,000,000 a year.

In a progressive tax system, the tax rate changes according to your income bracket

You mean like this:
The guy making $75k or lower pays no income taxes.
The guy making $150k pays $45k in taxes (30% rate).
The guy making $1m pays $555k in taxes (55.5% rate).

It is?

So the guy making $45,000 a year will write a check to the IRS?

Are you confusing "tax rate" with "effective tax rate"?  They're two different things.  I thought somebody as brilliant as you would know that.

Apparently not.  My bad.

6/9/2014 10:01 PM
I don't see, for the sake of this discussion, how the difference matters.

You're saying we should change the tax code because it isn't fair. How is a two bracket system more fair?

Also, reforming the entire tax code is a huge political undertaking. Will everyone still pay what they paid before? If yes, what's the point? In that case both systems were equally "fair" and it was a huge waste of time.

If not, where is the difference? Who pays more/less?

You don't see how the difference matters?  I'm not sure how I can explain it any more clearly than I already have.  You asking the same question over and over because you don't like the answer (I really don't believe that you "don't understand") is kind of pointless, because I'm just going to give you the same answers that you'll disregard.  How many more pages should we continue doing that?

You've suggested that we should add yet another tax bracket to the top, to tax the upper class at an even higher tax rate than they are currently paying, while not affecting anybody else, correct?  Because "they can afford it"?

Is that correct?

Tell me how "because they're rich and they can afford it" is "fair".

You've never answered, biz.

Look, obviously no one will go through all the trouble to revise the tax code if the result is the status quo. It's pointless to go to a flat tax to be more "fair" if everyone will still end up paying the same amount. That would just prove that the system was already fair.

So the tax burden is going to be shifted one way or the other. I'm asking you, which way do you think it should go?

When you answer that I'll answer any and all the questions that you have.

HOW TO FIX AMERICA

1) Scrap every ******* bullshit loophole where millionaires don't pay ****. You get to pay 35%, not ******* 0% like the ******* NFL or Facebook or GE or whatever mother ******* are out are there. Only exceptions are you get $1500 rebate for every employee that got paid more than $30K for the year, but a limit of 100 employees total. Everyone can also get the mortgage interest claim thing, IF YOU LIVE IN THE HOME. **** your beach house. Everyone gets $1000 per kid on the Earned Income Credit, but a limit of 3. So you and your wife and kids can be the starters for the basketball team, but the 6th man isn't worth ****.

2) Unemployment. You get 3 months to figure out what the **** you're going to do after you got fired even though you thought you were the BESTEST employee ever. Go do whatever the you want, you might even want to you know, LOOK FOR A NEW JOB!!! Day #91, the GOV'MINT gets to find a job for you. They will find something at your skill level (CART PUSHER!) and get you interviews. You get offered a job, you have to take it, or the money is cut off. Shouldn't have wasted those 90 days, *******!

3) Drug policy! Stop locking up people for doing drugs. Guess what. REAGAN DRUG POLICY DIDN'T ******* WORK. We filled are prisons with small time drug losers. Money down the drain.

4) Government Spending. Oh great billions more for airplanes the military doesn't ******* want because the planes are being built in Representative Fucknuggets district. Oh look Louisiana/Florida/Mississippi got hit by hurricane. NO ONE COULD HAVE SEEN THAT COMING! As far as the military budget, just make like 100,000 more drones.

5) Medical Care. S-I-N-G-L-E P-A-Y-E-R     I know it'll be the downfall of the ******* country. Those people in Canada and the UK only live until they're like 12, but sacrifices must be made. I don't have time for your dumbshit arguments about how bad it will be. Health care costs are crazy. Oh and stop being so ******* fat. If you are fat, get healthier, or swamphawk yourself.

6) Immigration. Make everyone that's here a citizen ASAP. Yes they broke the law, that sucks, but there's zero chance of shipping everyone out, just make it so no one else comes in. Laser fence? Drones that shoot mace into their eyes. I don't ******* care.

7) Gun control. You can't do anything. Sorry libs.

8) Energy Policy. Every politician says the want an "All of the above approach". How about nuclear power? It's cheap and long lasting, other countries use it to perfection, but in America it's treated like trying to power the country through dog fighting.

Wow, I agree with most of this.  EIC should be two kids.  Overpopulation is a problem - if you have more kids than people it takes to make a kid, you get nothing beyond the first two.  No drugs for minors - let them be kids until they're of an age to decide to f*ck their lives themselves.  Single payer frightens me, but I could come around eventually if #4 were addressed (well beyond what is outlined above) and we had a reason to believe the government had any chance in hell of effectively managing the system.  The government pays $200 for a hammer for f*ck's sake.  They're more likely to bid UP the cost of health care than drive it down, given the evidence we have.  We're already past the point of no return as far as going to single payer eventually - once the government made it illegal not to have health care, it took away the free market's most powerful consumer tool for controlling costs (If it's too expensive, I won't buy it).  Most of this is predicated on addressing #4, in truth.  My concern is that if you drive down profits enough, research stagnates.  We'd either need a government efficient enough to believe that research funded/run by the government is a good idea, or we'd need other avenues to stimulate the research.  Longer exclusive prescription/surgical equipment patents, maybe?  The need for them as they now stand (keeping costs down) would be mitigated by the system (if it's run correctly).  I'm for common sense gun law reform - no 20 round magazines, no silencers, no automatic weapons, etc.  You want to own 10 shotguns?  I'm glad I'm not a pheasant.  You want 10 hunting rifles?  I hope you get your trophy rack.  You want a "semi-auto" submachine gun that holds 40 rounds and can be converted to full automatic by removing a pin?  Go f*ck yourself.

Damn, I never would have thought this before tonight, but stinenavy might get my vote in an election.

How to fix america...

split the country into 2 - Its heading that way anyways.

everything west of the mississippi is a red state that will cater to the small govt, less taxes crowd. This country can be called the republic of america. they will spend uber $$ protecting the borders and on defense. Its citizens can conceal & carry guns. they will encourage free markets and capitalism. They will build a keystone pipeline, drill in texas and alaska, and build nuclear power plants to become energy efficient and independant. This country will be fiscally conservative by nature.

The other country east of the mississippi will be called the democratic states of america. this country will open its borders, amnesty everyone, heavily tax its wealthiest citizens and treat them like pariahs. This country will use tax money to heavily support welfare, unemployment, and a single payer healthcare system. Here big business is considered bad and the corporate tax rates will be high. Military spending will be minimal because everyone will love this country and would never do it any harm. Coal and Oil will be regulated out of this country and replaced by solar and wind power. Everyone will earn at least $15 as mandated by this country's law. This country will spend more than they collect in taxes.

Problem solved - everyone is happy. Pick your side. Live with the consequenses of your choice.
