I'm not the arbitrator of anything. We tax upper income brackets at a higher rate because the money earned in those brackets has a lower marginal utility. That's why we do it and the law applies equally to everyone.

Why don't you post your new favorite phrase "lower marginal utility" a few hundred more times?

I found this.  I think it explains everything.

If I didn't have BL blocked, this thread would have a lower marginal utility. 

BL had low marginal utility in his pants all through high school.  It's even lower now.

The funniest thing about BL is, when you disagree with him, it's obvious that you just don't understand what he's trying to say.

As I said, the best times of my life was when I owned nothing.   Most people will call their college years "the best time of my life."   

I wholeheartedly dispute quality of life = purchasing power.

Hey BL, I had a $20 copay at the doctor's office today.  Did I pay that with high marginal dollars or low marginal dollars?

Would knowing the reason why I went to the doctor help determine HM vs LM?

Ohhh, is healthcare a basic need?   I thought we decided it was food/shelter.

I suppose, if you cut your arm off, one might call that a basic need.   However, if you were getting your nose fixed, not so much.
