FINALLY!  WE'RE AGREED!  THE WAR WASN'T ABOUT SLAVERY!  I'm glad I went to school when they still taught the truth.

We all know the simple truth that the south was not trying to make slavery legal in the north and we all know the north could not impose anti-slavery law upon the south.

It was in the Constitution.  They all followed it.  But there were other differences.

To be sure, the abolitionist scared the crap out of the establishment in the south, but they wielded no power that could topple them.

The whole thing was reactionary.  Beyond the slave issue there was tariff and trade. Expansion and growth. Power and money.  Control.  Just like now.

So when the south figured the states were over federal law because they felt the feds had overstepped themselves, they went reactionary.

And the federals reacted.  The south attacked. The north responded. The war was on.

Meanwhile slavery continued in every state that did not succeed.

So it was not just about slavery.  It was a catalyst.  It was about something else.  It was about a contract. The Constitution.

The south had every right to argue they could get out of a union and the north had every right to argue a house divided is suicide.

The south left and attacked a federal institution.  Lincoln responded to retain the union. The rest is history.  I trust you know it.

Winner gets the chicken dinner.  Loser has to give up his slaves.

Let's not have another civil war. But if we have one…I hope us slaves get to go free.

So you don't want to drop this?

*In general*, the flag is a symbol of the South's fight to maintain slavery.

Just like, in general, the cross is a symbol of Christianity. Even though I don't believe in Christ, it would be insane for me to say that the cross isn't a symbol of Christianity.

So one's personal beliefs or opinions might not always be true?

Interesting concept.

Are you somehow exempt from this?

Asked and answered.

The Confederate flag, like the cross, has no personal meaning to me, but it would be insane for me to claim that either one doesn't have a general symbolism.

Oh please.  This is spanking time.  I mean really.  This crap has to stop here and now.  Words have meaning.  Let us begin to use them correctly.

The flag was not and is not a symbol of slavery. And you said "in general" and that's a bunch of crap!  It is the battle flag of your neighbors and relatives who lost a conflict less than 90 years into the founding of this unique nation with it's unheard of freedoms and rights not under a monarchy.  It was revolutionary.

And we told you for the umpteenth time it was a two sided conflict.  One guy says they can succeed because the states have the power and right to break a contract.  Another guy says you can't break the contract because the contract was for eternity in this union and this blood union can never be broken or the union dies and we all suffer.

That was the conflict.  Slavery was a part of it.  It would have died anyways.  Instead over one half million men and boys and civilians died over it.

That price was paid over and over with blood 150 years ago. Those people laid their eternal soul down early for a belief and it should not be soiled.

So for the last time we employ you to accept the truth of  a nation divided over realities and differences that collided to make that nation we call modern today.

A scab will never heal if you keep picking at it.

So knock it off.
