Tea Party 4-18-11 Topic

I am glad Rand Paul won.

I would have been very angry if all the garbage the left heaped on him had impacted the vote in any way.

It looks like it backfired and people went for him in larger numbers than predicted.

He seems like a great guy and I wish him all the luck.

Jesus. I've got some, but not much, patience for the people who get chain emails from Tea Party Central who end up misquoting T. Jefferson, but when Rand Paul throws in a completely anachronistic quote and slaps his name on it...I mean, is it that much to ask that our Senators not just make **** up?  Especially those who are running on the f'ing Constitution.  I mean, there's irony...and then there's that bullshit.  Rlahann out.

He didnt misquote the Constitution. A lot of people will attribute the quote to Jefferson. Does that really matter.

That is his belief. Would it change the world if he quoted Thoreau instead of Jefferson?

Small stuff acting big.

All hail Aqua Buddha! His disciple is now the new Senator from Kentucky.

The moderates are upset too?

Look, it's not the biggest thing in the world--and I'm not saying it is, it's just kind of annoying.   Like if you told me you were the  biggest Beatles fan in the world and then you fucked up the lyrics to Let It Be.  Just makes him look really stupid.

Because the point isn't that he forgot who said what--it's that that quote sounds NOTHING like Jefferson in terms of language.  Like, anyone who's actually read any Jefferson would immediately recognize the anachronism/change in voice.   So, yeah, not a reason not to vote for the dude if you like his policies, just a reason to suspect that he's probably not the Constitutionalist he says he is, you know?  Wouldn't be a big deal if he was just some regular candidate...

Upset at the outcomes?  Not really.  Only the Feingold race.  ****** off that so many Tea Partiers don't know anything about the Founding Fathers?  True fact.

Does he regularly misquote the founding fathers, or are you expecting him to be Jesus?

I think you missed the point...anyone who's actually read Jefferson would never make that mistake.  It's that egregious in terms of how different it sounds.  It's not like a typo or something...it'd be like you getting confused and thinking the capital was New York City or something.  Or if I wrote, "If you liked it than you shoulda put a ring on it"~William Shakespeare.

But, I mean, whatever...it's really not that big of a deal...it's not like he's the first congressman to misrepresent himself or his expertise.

Wow, you're being awfully defensive.

Why are you asking me?
11/3/2010 11:10 AM
Yeah...and there's nothing moderate about me, either...I'm a pretty hard-core liberal.  I just don't really have a problem with one set of losers being replaced by some new blood.  Really, I just want a government that runs well.    At this point, I'm much more concerned about getting legit civil servants than I am pushing the welfare state forward.  Which is why I'd rather have P. Ryan over, say, Barney Frank...who I think is a hack.

I've resigned myself to looking forward to the entertainment value of this Congress. It's a shame folks like Oberjunker Iott and O'Donnell lost, but you can't have everything.

In terms of accomplishing anything, I'm expecting a dysfunctional mess. The institutional incentive not to compromise is now on the Dems, while the Tea Party views everyone to the left of Goldwater as a traitor.

It is about time that Obama fufills his campaign promise by reaching across the aisle.  If he doesn't, nothing will get done.
