First of all, run prevention is a totally valid strategy that a number of real teams endorse. Cbriese's teams don't generally make mistakes in the field, the pitchers are good enough to keep the ball in play, and they hit just well enough to score four runs a game and win more often than not. Totally valid.
We've seen patterns where batting eye became mainstream, where relief pitchers with high health and durability and can pitch basically every game became vogue, and the ability to use tandems to control the order your pitchers enter the game.
robusk is placing emphasis on splits. acecards is valuing speed. babypop values pitch control and quality of pitches.
The 0/0 in amateur scouting is a valid strategy in that it frees up a ton of money for your organization in other means. On average you're getting at least $25m more to spend on players by abandoning the draft.
I think everyone develops their own niches. I have a bunch. Some which I'm not sure I should divulge.
When a team is consistantly getting slotted at the end of the draft the players getting drafted aren't good enough to justify $20 mil+ in scouting. That money is much better utilized elsewhere. The only downside to 0/0 draft scouting is its slow to bring those budgets back up for type A/B FAs - you pretty much have to trade or re-sign those FAs to get value back for them.
