How much did you win?

Also, I have no idea what SKAFL stands for.  Rlahann?

I'm making my way through the BBC Surivors right now...it's pretty fantastic.  Feels a lot like Dead Set...which was also very good.  B0t, you'd really like both.

seems like donating to humanpets.com would make you both happy, assuming charlize agrees.

I have been trying to figure out if, as VD states, WIS overvalues defense in HBD. Using the recently completed HR regular season, I computed the DER (Defensive Efficiency Rating) for all Shtickless-ish teams. Although the top three DER teams correlate with the top three teams in (+) stats, VD's KC team has a surprisingly good DER, coming in fourth among the 12 teams I looked at.

I also included park factors and vL and vR for rotation and bullpen. It's difficult, though, to see really good correlations. Maybe Rob can see them.

Yeah, I know. Too long.
12/29/2010 4:38 PM
Note that MLB DERs ranged this season from .689 (Pittsburgh) to .726 (Oakland). Based upon this, I'd say WIS probably undervalues defense slightly. But there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of direct correlation between (+) plays and DER.

my KC team is the one franchise i have where my defense is probably at least average, i have some SSish players playing other positions

But you have nearly twice as many (-) plays as plus plays, and yet you still have a better DER than b0t's Honolulu team or moy's St. Louis team. Both of those play very solid defense.
12/29/2010 5:30 PM (edited)
KC also is a better hitter's park than either St. Louis or Honolulu, which I believe should result in a lower DER.

Hmm, yeah. My initial reaction was to say that WIS owners tend to undervalue defense by sticking first basemen in left field, etc., but if even those of us who put a premium on D can barely crack .700 DER then it would seem to be an engine thing, not a strategy thing.

Good post.  I have tried to look at only my teams and it has been difficult.  I have 5 teams, 2 are great defensively, 2 suck and 1 is in the middle.  They all have pretty similar records though.

I think your statement the other day that you basically you need to be really, really good at either offense, defense or pitching to overcome a big weakness in one of the three was pretty on the mark.

According to moy, errors are the only defensive stat worth a damn.

Yeah...  I have a 1B at LF in HR and just having one of those will kill a defense.  People think they should be able to put DHs at 1B and 1B in COF and be fine.  It is ridiculous.
