someone needs to put together a team of 7 true SSs on defense which is at least an average overall hitting and pitching team so these defensive theories can be tested.

My HR team this season was pretty close. Most of the year my starters were:

1B: 74/80/89/77
2B: 92/94/61/62
3B: 77/86/87/81
SS: 90/87/92/90
LF: 77/85/53/58
CF: 91/80/54/61
RF: 78/82/89/85

Could have had stronger arms in LF and CF, but I doubt I would ever have a much stronger defense than that. Gold gloves at 2B and CF.

Too many CFs, not enough SSs, and you say you care about defense?
