The Sons of Pitches are unofficially out of the playoffs
You made a series of ineffective moves chronicled here... you still have the talent to turn it around though. I expect you to be back in next season.
I agree - it also doesn't help having Rhodes and Flynn out for the season. The bullpen lost a lot of games.
Yeah, that hurt... but part of it is your model. You got in the mode where you decided to build you team around 3-4 nice hitters and 4-6 nice pitchers and then fill them with real junk. The teams that last have deep lineups (which, incidentally score more runs... I broke this down after your Garcia trade so I don't feel compelled to do it again) and serviceable guys throughout the staff. Like you, I like to keep my IP down to like 4-6 guys throughout the post-season, but the rest of the staff is usually made up of guys who would succeed on any team for depth and because of injury. When you get injuries (which is common because of your historical financial trends) you can never plug anyone of competency into those roles.Â
Your Salem team is defying the odds right now but you are going to wish the end of that lineup had some bats at some point in the playoffs. I can't recall how many series my teams have won (my last two WS in DM at the very least if I remember correctly) because my 6-8 hitters carried the team.
