Gingrich's "Food Stamp" Comment Topic

I have a question for both sides of the political spectrum here.  To qualify, I'm not much of a Gingrich fan and although I think he is extremely intelligent about a lot of things, he is a candidate that does not have much of a chance to win and doesn't do much for me personally as a conservative.

I am, however, dismayed at the press's treatment of his "food stamp president" as "coded racist language" and pulling the race card yet again with respect to criticism of the current president.

Do you agree?  Disagree?  Why or why not?

Gingrich lost the right to whine about false dog whistle accusations when he praised d'Souza's "Obama's Kenyan anti-colonialist ideology" idiocy.

He's trafficked in the stuff before, and likely will again. If this particular instance happens not to be an example, too bad.

It's just politics.  Even the semi-intelligent can see thru the nonsense.   Although the lesser intelligent will say something like "too bad".

Let's see if the media goes after Obama and call him an anti-semite for siding with the Palestinians.

Somehow, I see the double standard forming up again.

Again as many Conservatives predicted any criticism of Obama is now painted as "racist" by the left. Every sign, every criticism and every single comment. The left reinforces this every day in their talking points. It is race, race and more race.

The food stamp president comment is valid. How could this be Racist in any way shape or form?

Facts are facts.  Now we are up to 14.3% and 44.2 million people receiving them.

Of course, Nancy Pelosi wants to let you know that the economy is the best it has ever been because of this stat.

The "food stamp president" comment was incoherent.

Gingrich has been road-testing a "Dems are the party of food stamps, we are the party of paychecks" slogan, which is a decent enough bit of campaign rhetoric. Newt's good at that sort of thing. But he tried jumping from there to "Obama is the food stamp president", which just makes no damn sense. Obama didn't create the food stamp program. He didn't campaign on or preside over a massive expansion of it. Obama is just as much the "food stamp president" as Bush or Clinton or anybody else back to Nixon.

Given that the comment makes no damn sense at all on the face of it, it's natural to wonder if it's a weird variation of the "welfare queen" dog whistle. It also left the door wide open for someone to use that incoherence as an excuse to assume/interpret the worst. I personally don't think it was a dog whistle - I think Gingrich was just throwing rhetoric at the wall to see what would stick, and that one just left a skid mark on the wall instead - but given his history of pandering to racist bullshit, I don't particularly care whether he gets the benefit of the doubt or not. He's done nothing to deserve it.

The Dog Whistle. The irony is that the only people that are hearing the Dog Whistle now are left wing activists who scream racsism at the most harmless things.

And if Obama isnt going to take responsbility for anything he does as president why keep him? Everything he screws up is Bush's fault or Bush and Clinton or all the presidents! His radical economic policies are draging out the recession, but since there was a downturn before he got here nothing is his fault!

Gingrich is having every word he utters gone over like a CSI clue! The media needs to eliminate any opposition because they know their guy is sinking fast!

Oh, swamp, you silly little sponge. You don't even know what the word responsibility means.

I know.  Obama singlehandedly took down bin Laden.  I guess swamp missed Obama's address to the nation that night.    He took full responsibility for it.

Why shouldn't he take responsibility...it's not like he dressed up as a pilot to proclaim that a half-assed operation was finished.  He did something Bush didn't, that Bush said he was going to do but couldn't get the job done in the 7years after he said it.

I didn't say he shouldn't.   Everyone knows he went into the compound and fired the fatal bullet.   There was a lot of "I" in that campaign speech, errrr, address to the nation.

He gave the order to assassinate bin Laden, he was going to take the flak if anything went wrong.  How is his speech any different from Bush playing dress-up to give us the impression he was taking part first hand in the Iraq invasion?
