WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE Topic

Again, you seem to be missing the point.   Legalizing something that is illegal is different than the other way around.

I'll compare slavery to prostitution.   You're paying for someone to physically handle your business.   Due to the circumstances, they don't have the power to say "no".    There's a very fine line between "pick my cotton" and "suck my dick".

The civilized world, reading Mike's posts.

They look like dumb canucks.   Dismissed.

They're Europeans too.

Talk about your "right to bear arms", then you'll have then rolling in the aisles.

We'd just invade Canada and steal your legal prostitutes if they weren't so damn ugly and smelly.

Quit justifying the money you spend on lap dances and get in the real world.

None of this applies to me.   I'm old and married.  I don't have any daughters who'd think "Hey, I can get paid for this?"

But, as a young, single man with no desire to procreate, legalized prostitution would have made me a lot less interested in the dating process.  The dinner, drinks, movies, conversation, etc, etc, would have cost a lot more with no guarantee of a happy ending.   That would have been replaced with "Here's your $50.  Turn around and bend over.  I'm meeting some buddies in a couple of hours."  And, once accustomed to that, there would be no need for marriage later.   We'd be a country of single dudes, hanging with the boys between visits to the sex shop.    And women would have to adapt and throw it out a lot quicker if they ever wanted to get married.

So, based on that, it should be illegal.
6/21/2011 12:56 PM

Nope.  It is illegal.  You're the one asking for change.   Tell me why it's a good thing.

As I've said, repeatedly, it's a cultural change.   What societal ills would legalized prostitution cure and at what cost?

Don't be mad at me because your wife would throw a hissy if she found your stash of porn.   Or the fact that she wouldn't let you go to your co-worker's bachelor party.   Just tell me why the law should change.   What is the purpose?
6/21/2011 12:59 PM

And stay on topic.  Don't tell me because alcohol is legal or that prostitution is legal in Zimbabwe or that the divorce rate in Northern Ireland is lower.    Why would legalized prostitution be a good thing?  That's all I want to know.

Prostitution.

First, I'm going to assume most spouses aren't cool with their spouse getting it elsewhere.   I'm also going to assume that more than one of us would nail a prostitute when the wife was being bitchy if it was legal.  Assuming you still consider it victimless(you want some, the wife won't give it up, the prostitute will for a fee), you're still going to have some broken homes.   Wife finds out, takes the kids, kids have no father figure, kids get a little unruly, etc, etc, etc.

Second, there's the mental aspect of being a whore.  Young women(and men because you know the gays need equal rights) make bad decisions.   It's part of the growing up process.  Are you willing to say that no one will look back on their youth and say "I can't believe I let a fatass like swampy flop around on me for 3 minutes three times a week for 3 years" without regret?  I'm not sure you can come back from that.

Third, it's my contention that men get involve in relationships for the physical aspect.  We've got certain needs that have to be taken care of.  Unfortunately for us straight guys, there isn't a vast expanse of women willing to handle these needs unless they're getting something for it.  Since prostitution is illegal, we have to date them and maybe even marry the one we find tolerable to satisfy our carnal needs.   Making it legal to buy the poon would, without question, stop many men from getting involved in deeper relationships.

Fourth, if the government run sex houses are charging $50, do you really believe that some enterprising gentleman won't get himself a stable of whores and charge $40?  You don't eliminate prostitition, you just drive it further underground(use abortion as a model).

In summation, legalized prostitution will wreck family values.   And damn sure won't eliminate the illegal sex trade.

Next.
This is my argument.  In case you've forgotten in all your bullshit talk of some nation with 32 people who get drunk and kill their wives but never get divorced.

Why are you trying to protect people from themselves in this regard and not others?

"Because it already is" is not an answer.

People need to be protected from alcohol. it's legal.
People need to be protected from tobacco. It's legal.
People need to be protected from prostitution...it's not.

"because it is" would be your answer. Good answer!

Hmmmm....I don't see a single "Society needs legalized prostitition because..." in there.

IOW, you can't think of a single reason why it's a good idea.

I think you're done here.   Go **** a moose.

Society needs legalized prostitution because it is commerce between 2 consenting adults and the laws to fight it are costly and do nothing to stop the trade.
