I didn't pay a ton of attention to the trial, but:

1.  Maybe a bit of prosecutional overreach.
2.  The systemic bastardization of the concept of reasonable doubt.

I wasn't surprised at all that they didn't convict on the murder charge, but I really thought they'd find her guilty of either manslaughter or, more likely, the aggravated child abuse charge.

Yeah, I mean they pretty clearly couldn't literally "prove" murder, but realistically speaking, convictions could be made with less.  A kajillion people said it on twitter yesterday, but it's probably true that a crackhead mom in the same situation would get convicted.  Of course, a crackhead wouldn't have even had the resources she did.

I didn't pay attention myself...  just read enough to know the ***** was guilty.  Your explanation sounds educated enough for me.
