I don't watch MSNBC either. In fact, I'm struggling to think the last time I turned on the television to seek information or an informed opinion about any subject. It's been a while.
So do you think that isolates you from America.
As part of my job, I browse through several American, Canadian and European newspapers every day, focusing mostly on energy, environmental and political stories and commentary. Not watching television news probably doesn't isolate me nearly as much as not turning on the Daily Show, Letterman or any of the other late-night shows.

I find it funny when someone says "I don't watch TV to get news because it's slanted one way or the other."    Because, unless you're getting it firsthand, like speaking directly to someone or eyewitnessing the action, someone else is giving you the news.  
The Wall Street Journal and New York Times are slanted but are worth my time for the amount of information gleaned from them. Fox and MSNBC are slanted but aren't worth my time. If I wanted to watch a bunch of shouty gasbags holler incoherently at each other, I'd spend more time with my in laws.

Just saying that all secondhand information may be slanted.   Likely is slanted.   What you do with ANY information supplied by ANY source is up to you.

I find it amusing to flip back and forth between FOX and CNN to see how they cover a story.

It's like the old joke about the 6 y/o Birmingham boy who killed a pit bull that was attacking his little sister.   The local newspaper went out to cover the story and write an article about how brave he was.   The boy walked out wearing an Auburn shirt so the headline became "Criminal bastard boy kills beloved family pet".

All secondhand information IS slanted. Totally agree. And you have to try to read in between the lines. That's why it's important to get a range of coverage from across the spectrum. I just find it more useful to get mine from the WSJ and NYT rather than television because you don't get as much and you don't have to suffer idiots.

True, but then you can just move to the next story on the page rather than being forced to wait while a chimp with a mike like Bolling makes an ****** out of himself for the rest of the segment before the commercial break. Even the most blinkered writer at the New York Times or Wall Street Journal needs to put together a coherent argument with a set of facts. Obviously they can be very selective about those facts. However, even the worst journalism in those papers is still far better researched and far less insufferable than the shouty crap served up regularly on Fox or MSNBC.

You are reading about a 400 point Dow fall and there is a 300 point upswing.

The only reason I have a paper delivered to my house is coupons and free puzzle page.

I didn't imply. You made an assumption, which shocks the hell of me. You'd think a committed television watcher would not jump to conclusions, nourished intellectually as you are in the medium of today. Sadly, there's no hope for me to change at my age so I'll condemn myself to the drudgery of old-world content delivered by the printed word rather than attempt to suffer through the irritating shrieking of mike chimps. I'll risk stupidity with the Wall Street Journal and New York Times, although I seem to encounter it far more often in other places. Here, for example.
