What Is A "Fair Share" When It Comes To Taxes? Topic

lol. I'll consider the source on that one, sport. You do sound like quite the grown-up and a very well-informed one, too, with stunning insights, rapier wit and only slightly dodgy punctuation and grammar. There's also a real heft to arguments that rely on calling people names. That's clearly a sign of somebody who works smarter rather than harder. Well done!

It's also nice to see you maintain form and make another mistaken assumption. I've not paid a dime to this site for a couple years. I'm using credits earned on Gridiron Dynasty. When the free seasons run out, I'll make a decision on whether to continue based on whether I'm still enjoying the game. Obviously, sticking around would allow me to be exposed to the wit and observations of cable-weaned intellects such as yourself and Swampy. It would be almost criminal not to take that opportunity to improve myself.

Is there a difference in remarking how someone seems to be a pompous ******* and tossing around thinly-veiled insults?

I'm simply pointing out that you seem to think TV news is beneath you.  It's the sort of pompous ******* thing people do when they like to pretend they're better than the "common folk".    anton does it.  You're doing it.   If that's who you are, just be it.  Don't pretend.

As for the "credits earned", I assume you plunked down a dollar or two at some point.   Was that BEFORE FOX News became what it is today?

BTW, it's hilarious that you've listed soccer as your favorite sport.

You're a walking-talking soccer stereotype.   You see, when someone says "I don't like soccer", soccer guy always says "It's because you don't understand it" like it's some hyper-sophisticated game.   It's grown men kicking a ball.  It's not complicated.  It's just a game some people don't like.   You people have to get over yourselves someday.

Finally, at the risk of "getting smart like you", I actually agree with much of what you said about the talking heads.   Their job is to get ratings.   Being "controversial" is a ratings-getter.    So having strong opinions is what they do.   But, unlike you, I can stop listening when they get annoying.   Then I'll take my immature, uneducated *** somewhere else.   If someone will explain to me how to use a computer, change a channel or simply read me an article, I can get a broader view on said subject.

And since I'm going to watch NBC or FOX at some point during the year, I don't mind paying the talking heads' salaries with my cable bill.

Well, dammit, I hit submit before I was done so it's not a "finally".

If I'm not mistaken, Rupert Murdoch own WSJ.  I believe you said you used that as a news source.  Wanna guess what else he owns?

I see we are in the middle of another of Mike's famous ******* contests!

swampy is somewhat on track.  I'm getting the "I'm too educated to watch TV news" from will.

I think I said it earlier but you can find **** on the tube, on the radio and in any number of print sources.   Get the information from wherever and do what you need to do with it.
That's funny because I'm getting a "here's why lefties can play second base" vibe from you.
They can.  They won't do it very well but they can.   Of course, someone with a narrow view of the world, someone who thinks TV is an evil news source with no redeeming value, wouldn't think they could.
loll -- yes, that's exactly what I said.

Look, it's fine if you want to drive a Chevrolet rather than a Mercedes, that's your choice. Or have their kids attend community college rather than an Ivy League school. But this whole notion that all information sources are created equally is about as plausible as a lefty playing second base.

I don't think television news is evil -- I think most of it is a waste of time that can be occasionally amusing. Much like some of the posters in this thread.
loll -- yes, that's exactly what I said.

Look, it's fine if you want to limit your news sources rather than expand your possibilities, that's your choice.   But, as has been said numerous times, what you do with the information you glean is up to you.  Without doubt, some people say "Glenn Beck said it, it must be true" while others worship Jon Stewart or believe every word Media Matters prints.   However, it's patently ridiculous to say "I don't use this form of media because it's slanted."    That really comes off as unintelligent and narrow-minded.   I don't think you are but that's how it sounds.   Personally, I don't care if you watch TV.  I don't care if you even own a TV.   I just think it's silly to dismiss it as a legitimate news source.
No it wasn't what I said but you appear to be well versed in making it up as you go along. But anyway you are correct that I do limit my choices. That's something most adults do because they do have a limited amount of time so they make decisions based on the quality of service or product they receive, which is information in the case of media. I pay to subscribe to different newspapers and magazines rather than buying cable packages that include FOX and MSNBC. I make that choice based on past experience. It's a win-win for me because not only am I limiting myself in exposing to ******* like Rush, Beck, Olbermann, I'm not subsidizing the salaries of said mike chimps.

Obviously, given the amount you post in this forum, you've clearly got more time on your hands than I do as well as develop your skills at sophistry. You've not yet articulated how you bother to inform yourself, which, given your insights, doesn't surprise me.

In the meantime, I'll give you an example of why I make the choices that I do. Here's a link to a recent post by Jennifer Rubin on Paul Ryan, touting his presidential prospects. You'll note several links to different forms of media including a very good debate between New York Times columnist David Brooks and Ryan at the American Enterprise Institute. Whatever your position on Ryan or opinion on Brooks, ******* like Rush, Olbermann, Beck and others don't get invited to these grown-up political events. That's because policy makers recognize they are entertainers rather than serious pundits. You'd be better off watching South Park, something that I quite enjoy. Not only are they more entertaining, you will be treated to far more insights than a month of listening to Rush.

Are you saying you dont have cable TV?

Also you do seem to have a little arrogance about news. I once saw a debate between Alan Dershowitz and Alan Keyes about the topic of religion in America. It went for a few minutes longer than forever and they actually had to close them down to get them to stop talking. It was brillant. Of course it was an all academic discussion.

The rality of American politics is process is important. Cable TV covers the process, Newspapers cannot react like that. It is like the joke I made about the Dow going up while you are reading about it going down. There is almost nothing you cant find somewhere on TV, while there are many things you cannot get from Papers.

Internet trumps TV for the same reason.

I'll let myself posts speak for themselves. As somebody who works smarter rather than harder, you shouldn't let your insecurities lead to some rather massive assumptions. I never said I'm better than anybody else. Obviously, there's some deep-seated issues for you and that's a real shame.

I don't know the last time I spent money on this site but it has been a while. I enjoyed GD to bother caring about who actually owned the web site at the time. I don't view it as a waste of my time. Watching Rush, Beck, Olbermann et al on the other hand . . .

lol -- Well I'm flattered you've decided to research me rather than deal with the issue at hand. But you are right. Soccer isn't complicated. It's why it's the most popular sport in the world.
