I feel about the 90s as you feel about the 80s rock wise. Nothing of substance.

So I defaulted Bon Jovi.

I had, of course, never heard of the Afghan Whigs.

I would call any guy who liked Bon Jovi (80s or 90s version), nothing personal.

Give the Whigs a listen - a far better band than those Pearl Jam posers.
