1. Business is driven by profit not the well-being of individuals.
2. Government has been bought by business.

So what does he want?  For someone to say "That's just wrong.  Business will not be driven by profit and government will not be bought by business!!"?   That is not happening.    So what is his solution?
My solutions would be darn near impossible given the apathy by humanity at large.  Or rather by 1st worlders anyways.

#1 Id say enact laws that make it illegal for campaign donations of any more then $10 per person.

#2  Boycott big business that has track records of unsavoury actions.  (I do this, I never buy gas at Exxon/Esso)

#3  Search out worker co-ops to do most of if not all your shopping.

If not #3 then do all of your buying at mom and pop type stores.

If everybody did (or demanded) all of these things then big business wouldnt have the stranglehold that they do have on government,and heck, there would be no big business (of the type that we are used to anyways).


I realize non of these things are going to happen, but hey, a tree hugging lefty can dream cant I?   :)

Has anyone ever shown a case of a member of congress changing a long help position because of a donation?

Business donates to the people who think like them. They only have 2 choices, so you can only donate to a candidate who is running.

Mom and pop stores? Really? Why punish a company that can lower costs?

1.  I'm pretty sure that you're aware of corruption in politics(and pretty much everything else).   So make your law and see what happens.    We'd call them fundraiser dinners.   Unless, of course, you're going to change how those work also.   Therefore, you're going to tell people how much they can charge for a plate of beef and beans. 

2.  I think I've said that.   Now get people to join you.

3. People want cheap products.   Figure out how to make mom and pop charge less.

You live in a dream world.   It's not practical.

I noticed you didnt say anything about the worker co-ops though.  Is it because you agree such arrangements are a good thing?  Therefore you didnt want to say anything about it?

I already admitted that I am dreaming when I wish for all these things.  I know its not going to come to pass, people are happy with status quo because people dont want to rock the boat... Except for a select few of us anyways.

I thought "People want cheap products" covered worker co-ops.   Nonetheless, if they can provide the same service/product at the same cost as General Electric, Wal-Mart, Target, McDonald's, etc, etc, people would use them.   But they need to get the word out and that costs money too.

Here's the thing.   Small business has to find a way to compete with big business.   Plain and simple.   I'm small.  I've been in business since 10/97.  I'm well-aware that Big Time Trucking could contact all of my customers, cut every rate and put me out of business.   I've found a way to avoid that.  That's what businesses, of all sizes, have to do.   Find a way.    You're wanting people to support the "little guy" because he's the little guy.   F that noise.  That's not the American way.

The other thing is, we cheer for the little guy until they actually succeed.  Then we switch sides.  Do you think benevolent little "mom and pop" shops don't want to grow bigger themselves?  Or should have the freedom to?  When they do, why should we penalize them?

As is often the case the clearest guide on this issue comes from a South Park episode, "Something Walmart this way come".

The episode is about Walmart taking over South Park. Near the end the town bands together and destroys "The Walmart". They start shoping at a small local store and it does well and keeps getting bigger until it becomes as big as Walmart and the town bands together and destroys it.
