Tea Party vs Occupiers Topic

Lol. You kill me mike. I suppose when our parked car got hit the other night while we were inside eating dinner it was our fault because we chose that restaurant or that parking space. Or maybe it's our fault because we own a car.
So you equate parking a car to handing someone money to invest for you?

Now, if you loaned your car to a friend(i.e. handed him the keys) and he wrecked it, you'd have an apt comparison.   Otherwise, go hug a ******* tree and blame someone else when you get poison ivy.

For godssake.   If you hate black people, you are probably a Tea Party supporter.  If you're an out of work hippie, you're probably a OWS person.  But that does not mean that everyone in the Tea Party is racist and everyone who supports OWS is a hippie.  Try to focus on the god damn message instead of the lunatic fringe that get the media attention in attempt to distract you.
...and this is why Cain leads the polls by a large amount with Tea Party members.

Don't be naive`. They just SAY they support Cain, so their racism will be less obvious.
Actually, they probably support Cain because he's the current leading non-Romney candidate...

There may be some truth to this.  As a "radical religious right winger", I find Romney slimey.  Has zero to do with his 'religion' by the way.  He has some decent ideas, but with him it's more of the same.

I like many of Cain's ideas, though he's lacking on foreign policy (of course it's not like the current WH occupant is any better in that realm).  None of the candidates fits what I'd like to see completely.  And for those of you who believe the Tea Party (and by extension, the rest of us that aren't in the Tea Party, but very conservative) are racist, please support your claims.

I also concur that it is just about impossible to decipher what this OWS group wants.

You're right, President Obama's policies that got rid of Qaddafi and Osama bin Laden from this planet are equivalent to Cain willing to negotiate with terrorists.

Yep.   He made the decision to contribute to his company 401k plan, right?    I mean, really, how can someone who is WILLINGLY giving money to someone to invest for them be absolved of blame?  HOW??????????????????? PLEASE ******* TELL ME HOW!!!!!!!!!

Mike is right. Also, if you go to the doctor, and he decides to harvest your organs, that's your fault. And if someone hacks into WiS and steals your credit card info, YGWYD.

That is circular reasoning.
The reason he is the "current leading non-Romney candidate" is BECAUSE of the Tea Party support.

If you're not managing your money, you really have nothing to complain about when you're broke.   While it may not be a good way to invest your money, putting it in a coffee can and burying it in the backyard won't leave you broke when you're 70.

Here's the problem:   People put all their eggs in one basket.  And when that basket breaks, all their eggs hit the ground.   It's hard to feel bad for someone who didn't diversify.

Although in most instances we seem to be in agreement, I have to disagree a bit here.

The stock market is historically the safest bet, and best return over the long haul.

Regardless of how diversified your portfolio was the total value was hit pretty hard.

If you invested every dime you had in the stock market, you got what you deserved.

Madoff is more of an outlier... and he will serve his time for committing atrocious crimes.

As a registered investment Rep I can attest that I wouldn't have a job if I was selling aggressive investments to the elderly. That has been heavily monitored by firms for at least the last decade while I've had a u4. Any IA will tell you they need to 'know their client'. The norm is not Madoff.
Right. The norm is not Madoff.

The norm is what I just posted, it is typically a safe bet, unless there is wrongdoing, which there certainly was here.

As Taint said, there was too much turning a blind eye, and the victim should not be held solely responsible.

Should they share some of the blame?
I guess from a strictly legalistic interpretation, but we can not absolve the criminal element that is far more responsible than the people who only did what millions have done successfully over the last 50+ yrs.

I totally agree that a big problem in America is lack of  taking "personal responsibility".
Far too often there is always someone else to blame. Which is definitely hurting the nation as a whole.

However, I think when you try to spin this type of scamming into a lack of personal responsibility, you weaken the cause.
Similar to when certain members of the African-American community cry racism at the drop of a hat, it hurts the cases where racism actually exists.

Right.

No matter how terrible President Obama is in most areas, I think it is very hard to make a case that he hasn't succeeded in the war on terror.

He has made some gutsy calls and has come up big in almost every instance.

What if you had 50% in the market and 50% allocated elsewhere.

If your 500K portion in the market was reduced to 100K due to fraud, I have a hard time laying blame on the individual in this instance.
10/20/2011 4:50 PM
100k is broke?  Really?
10/20/2011 5:01 PM
50% in the market is not a diversified portfolio.... and savings accounts haven't lost a penny throughout this financial 'meltdown', btw.
