Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Mike Pearce

Am I missing something? Just wondering why this guy struggles so much.

I don't think the vel/GB ratings are to blame here.  They're secondary ratings.  I'm wondering if this guy pitched fatigued from time to time.  How many pitches was he throwing a game? And yes, being left-handed doesn't help when he's mostly facing righties.

At the end of the day, 150 innings or so isn't the largest sample.  You see starters in this game have "off" seasons that confuse you.

He's really only good for 10-15 (maybe 20) pitches per appearance, which will only be a full inning when it's "clean".

Make sure he's not getting killed by the last batter or two, as when he's only giving 40-60 IP, a couple of 3-run bombs will kill his rate stats.

In short, check out his game logs (which aren't available since yo've rolled - but going forward).

Further to both other responders, the low vel does mean he's pitching to contact... which should be a good thing since Ks are 3 pitches minimum, and his output is at a premium with only 14 STA.

HR every 7 innings.   My guess is a PC problem.   Recs are probably 25/30.   I'd pitch him 10/15 or 15/15.

Probably not pitch count when looking at the games to IP ratio. Probably.

My guess is  Lawrence Grimsley is your starting catcher. He hit homer. He no help pitcher.

I have always had his pitch count at 10/15 but have not checked when he is giving up the runs.  He usually doesn't come in until the 7th inning or later where the majority of the games his catcher was Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Eugenio Arrojo.  At least last season.

It would surprise me if the catcher had that much of an impact on this guy's stats.

It would surprised me if he didn't.

Catcher affects OAV.

Dude has pitches that are 72, 80, 46. Forget the vL or vR, if he's getting a catcher below the recs, he's getting killed.

A catcher with 80something pitch calling will make a starter with high control, Vl Vr in the 50s, and high pitch numbers (like 90,70,60,40, or something like) probably half a point in ERA better than someone in the 50s.

"Forget the vL or vR..."

Why? They are very important ratings.  And his are very good.

Unless PC in a catcher only affects pitches, and has no baring on splits.  Which I didn't think was true.

It affects OAV, period. You throw him a 45 PC, and his OAV is going to be higher than normal. He pitches to contact. He has so so pitches. BAD COMBO.

death uses pitcher's parks and high PC catchers.   He can get away with 50s splits.    He also usually leads the league in runs not scored.

So, basically, death should have all the say he wants about pitching in a pitcher's park.   Otherwise, it's best to ignore him.

He had a catcher ERA of 5.37. Might be a case of cause/effect, but he was over a full run higher than the 45 PC.

But he has great splits. So...

I know a lot of teams that do very well with catchers with PCs around 50.  And look at the 2 catchers this guy showed you, and look at the ERAs.  The "bad" catcher had an ERA of under 4 the previous year.  The PC of a catcher certainly has an impact, but I doubt it's the reason this guy has had an ERA over 5.

Wrong. It works proportionally anywhere.

Don't get bitchy because you have no clue how to work it.
