I have a question regarding player options and free agency. I have asked a couple more veteran owners in my league and they did not know, with certainty, what the answer is.
If a player declines his end of the mutual option is he guaranteed to go to free agency or can he be re-signed during the re-sign period? Does he decline because he wants the additional years that he is now asking for? Also one of the two players in question declined a 7 million dollar option and is now only asking for 5 million, which to me says the years (larger total contract value) is what the player is looking for. I understand there is a set formula for how these things work I just do not know what it is capable of in this scenario.
