Opinion on pitching prospect with poor L/R Topic

http://www.whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=6318990

Future projections:
Stamina-88
Control-90
Left-76
Right-58
Velocity-95
GB/FB-84
Pitch 1-94
Pitch 2-74
Pitch 3-51
Pitch 4-34

Will the high control/velocity make up for the poor L/R ratings or is this a guy I should stay away from. The 58 against right especially scares me. New at this whole thing so am trying to get a feel for everything...opinions are appreciated.

A few things - control is important, as it limits walks.  Velocity doesn't have much impact on the game.  It will increase strikeouts, but that doesn't mean it has a significant impact on the amount of outs the pitcher gets.  What will help this pitcher more are his pitches - 94/74 for his first 2 pitches are very good.

You are right, the 54 vR will hurt, especially as a lefty.  I'm thinking low-mid 4s as an ERA?  What does everyone else think?

He'd be a serviceable LR with a good defense behind him.   Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: George Cannon

Guess I didn't mention this in the post above but this is for a potential trade-------overall projection 84 too for that's worth.

Just curious on the comment above on velocity....I've shyed away to this point from guys with really low velocity (like in the 30s)....is there a point where it's too low and it really does handicap the pitcher? I guess there are always the Jamie Moyer types out there but 30 on a scale of 0-100 just scared me off I guess....

Thanks for the insight.

A little higher in the DH league.  I'd project his ERA as a starter to be about 0.3 higher than park-adjusted league average.  That can play as an SP5.  He'd probably have a little lower reliever as an LR.

I doubt this guy would become someone that I would arb a second time.

14 is an ok number but it doesn't mean that projections are guaranteed to be accurate, or really, close to accurate.  He very well could have a vR less than what is projected.  And I understand that you couldn't budget that number higher, which is one of the reasons I (and others) generally tell players in their first year to try to stay away from trades, especially ones that involve prospects.  The bigger reason is that new guys won't understand the ratings well enough yet; it's easy to get fleeced.

As for velocity - I've never seen a number that's scared me away from a pitcher.  30s are fine.  Just means more balls in play, but it doesn't mean less outs.

He looks a lot like this guy:

He had one good year for me, one up and down one and now this season where he has been awful.
