So i draft 5th and only like 2-3 guys, so if i draft a guys that says "probably won't sign, heart set on going back to college"   what are the chances these guys actually sign?

My thought is next season when i have a higher budget, i will see more and better players.

I've done it more than once, and they didnt sign. So it worked for me, but it doesnt guarantee it works for you.

Ive never seen a "probably won't sign" actually sign.  At most, they will reject your initial offer and demand more money.  As long as you dont withdraw their offer, you will be rewarded with a comp pick.  Look for a red X next to their name, which will indicate they wont sign.

If they make a higher demand, do i have to offer that before i get the comp pick?

The only guarantee is if you draft a player who's consultant is their mother. They ALWAYS ask for more money. After they have asked for more money simply do nothing, and next season you will have the comp pick. Do nothing means do nothing do not take away your initial offer and do not give them what they want.

Just throwing in two cents here, but three seasons ago one of these guys in our world actually signed. Best position player on the board, "probably won't sign", mother was his consultant. Even stranger, he didn't counter what he was offered, he settled right away. Must have been one in a million and he absolutely surprised the owner who got him. Been tearing up the minors ever since, career OPS 1.289.

VERY unlikely, but all I'm saying is I've seen it happen.

With the fifth pick, there's a very good chance you'll actually get one of the 2-3 you like. The odds are at least 2 of the guys ahead of you will take players you haven't seen of players you ranked a little lower.
