Pre-draft it said "Looking to be drafted in the first round otherwise will except a scholarship to play D1 baseball." Drafted him 5th and offered him his asking price. Got this message "Erik is content with your offer, but is still unclear about his future. College is still an option, so he's gonna take his time with this decision. He'll let you know if anything changes." Bumped it up and got the same message. This guy going to sign or hit me with a counter? He was drafted last Saturday the 24th.

Never offer more than his asking price.  You're just bidding against yourself.

If he wants more money, he'll come back with a counter offer.

I was told by another owner that "take his time" means seven real life days till he gets back to you, and in my experience that's what it is give or take a few cycles.  tec is right, nothing means anything till he counters.

Cool. I wanted to see if it made a difference and now I know it doesn't. Thanks!

Thanks! I want him as I think that I got the best guy in the draft at #5!

Right.  But DO NOT withdraw your second offer.  You will risk not getting a comp pick should he decide to not sign.

Nope. I had that figured out. Just didn't know if I went past his demands if it made a difference. Thanks!

So for comp picks...

My second round pitcher wants $6.5 million and I ain't giving it to him. What would I get in return for not being able to sign him?

Unless you offer him his initial demand, and he rejects it, you get nothing.

7 real life days to the nuts and he accepted the offer. No counter or such in between.
