41-5 Home record at the break Topic

This is why I said hoggett would be doing Five Greens a favor by throwing some games.    Having the best record in your league by 20-30 games throws up a huge red flag.

Funny Hoggett was in the Caray and found it to hard to win with his style and bailed leaving  a crippled team that another owner has turned around. Winning in a world full of world champs is pretty hard not everyone can do it. Sound's like you joined a league that is too competitive for you. Next time  take more time before joining a league to see who the owners are it may save you from getting in over your head.
Doll, I joined the league as a swap to help another league. I did not know there was no competitive balance in this world.

And, rmancil, and I say this with love, I'm not the best owner in HBD, but I am a good one (I do hate tanking my teams to 100 losses and the "good ones" apparently do that) and I'll take my multi-world and whole 6 World Series championships over your zero.

I play in five other leagues with no silly owners and you're welcome to come dance in any of them.

Well, that sure gayed up this thread.

The truth is, I only just took this world over as commissioner towards the end of last season.  And yes, we had a hell of a time filling.  That's why I got a little defensive over tim's comments earlier in the thread.  I commish two worlds; one is Cal Ripken, where we will have zero turnover time this off-season.  It's already been taken care of.

With caray, it will be more difficult again, that is true.  However, my plan is to not discourage the newer owners from joining, BUT anyone with fewer than five seasons under their belt in either of my worlds moving forward I am going to make every effort to partner up with a mentor from outside the world.  Will this be a perfect solution?  Probably not.  But like I said, as a commissioner, nothing can be done if none of the individual trades is glaring enough to veto.

I'm not going to cap on rmancil.  I just don't think he's getting the point.  Most that are frequent posters here and enjoy the game are not opposed to challenges.  What you're describing is not a challenge.  I'm not interested in getting into a world like that and see if I can be a better vulture.

If you want to "not back away from a challenge", join a private world with strict MWR's like one of Mike's or tec's and see how many of those vulture trades happen.  They'll happen once in awhile, but there is no "smartest guy in the room" in those worlds because they recognize this.

I think sgmedia's plan is the only one which can make the world a success. I've done this in other leagues (wrote Trade chats 8 screens long on player development, etc) and I think it works

Wouldn't it have been easier to A) sitemail them or B) direct them to the forums?

This is a great thread. I learn a great deal from these forums. I'm new in caray (very new to HBD, too), and I came in picking up a team that appears to have been used, abused, and abandoned. I had to sign about 15 minor league fas just to have minimum rosters. I like the league, and didn't receive any predatory offers upon joining. (In another league, I received many, mostly in my first month, mostly from just a couple of owners.)

To my eye, the problem is only 50% noob related. MikeT said there are two choices: quit, or teach the noobs. I agree. And to me, teach the noobs is the answer, for the health of leagues and of HBD in general. Of course, there are some who don't want to learn, and that's a problem. To those who want to learn, the forums or gold. It's still a steep curve. Mentors or partners will help a lot. But I believe a lot of people seeking what HBD has don't really want a mentor. They are competitive and wanting to show they are smart, and (to my eye) they simply don't know enough to know they really NEED a mentor. They won't know that for a while.

I think requiring new owners to post and discuss trades for a season or two is a good idea. It creates conversation, it allows for a new owner to see how other owners evaluate players, and it discourages the bad actors who send the classic raft-of-**** for one gem deals.

Ever watch The Walking Dead?   If so, you've heard of Terminus.    And you've heard this "You're either the cattle or the butcher."    That's what you're describing.   I have no interest in competing in worlds where the cattle are willing.   Even if I'm the butcher.

Know what I mean?
perfectly quoted... I was actually thinking the same thing but wasnt going to post on this thread...

I've only seen S4 and S5(what's been done of it).   Worth going back for the first 3?

I liked the 1st 3 better.. Recent episodes have been to slow for me.. It could also be becasue I've read alot of the comics now which really ruins most of the suspense effect..

Same reason I liked the 1st season of Game of Thrones the best... I've read those books and I know whats going to happen before it happens now..

Comic books and fantasy novels? Are you sure you don't want to edit that post?
