That will require a complete overhaul of the engine.    Your 99/75 guy will be 56/0 in SB/CS and your team will be 58/1 under the current engine.  Yay for realism.

Under 'aggressive'? Maybe even just adjusting the sim so pitchers don't try to steal bases.

You won't use aggressive for the pitchers/****** basestealers.

Right now, the SB/CS(in most worlds) is pretty much in line with MLB.  Somewhere between 67-74%.    But the best base stealers are successul 90%+ of the time.  The balance is found because, if you want to steal a lot, your crappy BS are 2/12.    Those guys will be set to "never" while the 90%+ guys will be "aggressive".   So, with individual settings, teams will be successful 90%+.   Yay for realism.   Or they will have to overhaul the engine.

Ooooh. I see what you meant. Sorry. I thought you meant there was a setting I could set my team to now that would have my good base stealers go 68/1 and my bad ones go 1/2.

I know it would take a complete overhaul but I would just make catchers and pitchers pickoff attempts more successful. Have a guy who is 95/75 go 40/0 at max and have guys like pitchers and 50/30's go 0/12.

I mean, last year in our league we had a guy who stole something like 112 bags. It's fun but not very realistic.

No one should be 40/0.    In Coop, in the top 25 SB, we had a 30/1 and his team was 152/62.  The league leader was 63/5 and his team was 165/52.   Those numbers are acceptable but, with IND settings, the team numbers was be much more in line with those two individuals.

Yeah. This is the guy here. Believe it or not he was a 'probably won't sign' that took the first offer. Bclan made off like a bandit.

209/5 seems broken.

That's what I mean. The system needs an overhaul regardless. No one should have a 98% success stolen base avg. Even the famous Ricky Henderson was only a lifetime 80% success.

This discussion made me go back and look at the Riley SB numbers last season.  A few observations:

 - While it does seem broken that a player can have a 98% success rate, that entire team ended up having a 76% rate.  So like Mike suggested it would, the engine looks to have made the rest of his team run in a way that brought them back down closer to league average.

- Two teams were actually much more successful than that team, in both SB raw numbers and success percentage.  (Obviously you can build a SB-wacky team by drafting that way.)  One was a division winner who lost in the wild card round, and the other was a last place team.

- The WS winning team ran the least of any team in the world, with the least success.  29 SB and 37 CS.  It was actually the only team with a success rate under 55%.

That guy won in spite of himself.    When you're not in the 70% range, lower your setting.

BJB usually has below 30 stolen bases every year and he had won more championships in Riley then anyone. It's facinating.

I usually like high PC catchers.

The league average is 200 attempts. The leader had close to 450. The guy with the bad base runners had 66, 12 fewer than the next to last. So I'm sort of assumng his settings are at the bottom. Does "Never" actually mean NEVER? Something to try with one of my minors teams, maybe.

Anyway, that wasn't the point. While having a hot dog SB might be fun to see what stats he can put up, it doesn't necessarily add up to wins, especially if the player isn't being used in team context. It'd be interesting to see the 209/5 guy on a team with the settings cranked down, see how many he'd still get anyway.

Never does mean never.   I've seen 0/6 and all were picked off.

4/2/2015 7:03 AM
I've set my majors to "never" and had 2 SB attempts in each of 2 consecutive seasons (going 2-2 and 0-2).  The successful attempts were blown hit and runs or blown sac bunts, I forget which.
