I just had a player clear waivers this morning and am trying to assign him to my AAA team.  But when I try, I get a message that says he "may not be assigned back to the big league team since he was designated for assignment. You may trade him, release him, or assign him to a minor league club if he clears waivers and accepts the demotion."

He has already cleared waivers... is it true that at some point he will either (a) disappear from my roster having chosen to become a FA, or (b) allow himself to be assigned to AAA?  If so, how long does this usually take?  I'm just curious, I've been trying to assign him to AAA off and on all morning but keep getting the same message and not allowed to do it so far.

Yep, that's the guy.

He's not showing as having cleared waivers.

Waiver Status: None

I got a message saying he had cleared them this morning, and my general screen when I got to my team no longer shows that I am waiting for anyone to clear waivers.  I am confused.

Does 'Designate for Assignment' do anything to the waiver process?  I designated him for assignment when I wanted to send him down... pretty sure that I had to waive him in order to do so.

I don't think he's cleared waivers yet.

If he was waived on 9/12, he should have cleared this morning.  Unless something else affected his waiver status.  Typically, waiver status would be reset by the transaction deadline, which is around game 138.  But it looks like you've only played 109 games, so you're nowhere near the transaction deadline.

Not sure what's going on here.

Well, the obvious answer is this:

But I was assuming his mistyped what he was trying to do.   But the player waiver status is "none" so something else may be amiss.

Here's the problem.  The transaction deadline is usually after game 108 or 109 or so (not 138-- tec, that's when rosters expand).  So this morning at 3 AM he cleared waivers and instantaneously had his waiver status reset.

I imagine you can now put him on revokable waivers.  Try that and see if you can then assign him.  You have 8 more real world days to deal with this before he is automatically released.

keep in mind, a player who has been designated and has no options and then is subsequently claimed on revocable waivers will have to be released or traded to the claiming team.

My bad.  I just brain farted.

I knew roster expansion was at around game 138.  I never paid attention to around which game the trade deadline was.  But that makes sense.  It's around a month before roster expansion in real life, which would put it at around game 108/109.

So that's gotta be it.

Yes, I just checked - e-mail received at 3:16 AM informing me that he had cleared... but then I was allowed to re-waive him just now, so I think Dedelman's explanation must be what happened.  Either way, I had to get him off my ML roster because he was the weakest guy on the staff and I had a very good pitcher come back from the DL.
