Which is exactly what I'd expect for a first-time HBD experience.  N00bs are unlikely to know the difference is between a public world and a private world, would likely assume that a public world is the most appropriate starting point, so they would want to go into the world that will give them the quickest start so they can start pushing the buttons and kicking the tires.

"Starter" words are still the best unimplemented idea in HBD.  A free single season, shorter version (54 games) of the game.  Could also be with fewer teams (two leagues, each with two 4-team divisions, total of 16 teams), for an even quicker start

I run my own business.   I go out of my way for first-time customers because I want them to give me more business.  That seems like a smart way to go about business.

But you agree that the first-time experience should be good, right?  SLB is draft a team, set a line-up/rotation and look at results.   HBD is far more complicated and, quite frankly, would be easy to toss aside as it's $4.95.    Frustrate me and I'm done before ST starts for $5. 

Well whatever they are doing is working if the goal is to fill the empty public worlds.  Three leagues filled yesterday, and at least two, both of which started the day with 9+ openings filled already today.  Down to only 7 total public leagues with openings.

Well, that's "something".    I'm sure the owners in those worlds will be quite happy.
