The sky is falling!!! Topic

There is one private world with 19 openings that rolled over in August ...... of last year.  Obviously WIS isn't particularly concerned with open worlds.

This is by far the most worlds that I have seen with a lot of openings. Champions is going to have 8 openings, 3 failed the MWR so it's not as bad as it could of been. Last season it took awhile to fill openings I was hoping that was a fluke, I am hoping that isn't a problem this season. I imagine football season just starting isn't going to help.

I have too many teams - 5. I really should have 3 teams, but I am still playing all of them. I honestly wonder if there are a lot of owners like me who over extended and are now reining themselves in.
Once you get your teams "set" like you like 'em, it's much easier.   New teams or teams in transition are time-consuming but, if you've got your team in contention with a nice pipeline of talent, it only takes a few minutes a day.

What's really unusual is that there seems to be zero interest among owners in taking on a new team. I've endured long rollovers from time to time in every world I've been in, but there's always prospective owners at least asking about teams or owners willing to do world swaps to help speed things up. That's not happening now.

I can't say whether the sky is falling, but this feels more like a trend than a bad stretch.

That's not entirely true.   You were in Cooperstown.   The longest wait you ever had to endure was the disagreement between me/smoelhiem.   I didn't want tankers and he said he wasn't tanking despite all the facts indicating he was.    Other than that, you never waited more than 3 days.    And only that long because I was waiting for an owner who said he was coming back to re-up.

What is a little disturbing to me is that most of the interest when we have openings is from owners in my other world.   Bringing in new blood seems more difficult.  Almost as if good owners are already in worlds they like and they'll be willing to wait rather than swap worlds.   Plus, when a crossover owner decides he's had enough of HBD, you lose owners in both worlds.

Haha, that's true -- Cooperstown always rolled quickly when I was there (and still does). But most/all of us play in at least one world that loses ~4-6 owners per season on a consistent basis. Usually those guys are replaced within a week or two and a new season begins, sometimes it only takes a couple of days and sometimes a month or so. Some worlds have less turnover, plenty have more.

That's why I think your league contraction idea is a good one. Most worlds have been around long enough for commissioners (and owners) to have an idea of where they stand in the HBD marketplace. I'm not sure I would favor contraction in any of my currently idle leagues, but I'd certainly consider it. There seems to be more benefits than downsides to allowing worlds to choose that route.

There are currently 346 openings across 46 unfilled worlds.
As of right now, there are 194 openings across 28 unfilled worlds.

Seems like something positive is happening over the past two months.

Yeah, public worlds are filling.   Private worlds are finding the road a little tougher.

That's what I am seeing. I am thinking a lot of $4.99 newcomers are joining while  veteran owners seem to be cutting down their teams compared to adding new teams. The last 3 to 4 seasons it's been a challenge to recruit veteran owners but this current season has been by far the most challenging.

I am not sure what the long term effect will be with the $4.99 promotion. Will these be long term players or just 1 year wonders playing because its $4.99?

It seems to me all WIS dynasty games are on a downward path, the only dynasty game I am not playing currently is GD so I can't speak for that game. Even my soccer dynasty world which is FREE to play has lost a lot of  owners. Seem like about 10-20 seasons ago it was a full world of 20 owners and now its 4 owners and 16 sims, and like I said its FREE so its baffling to me why people are leaving.

I wonder how much of a effect the popularity of Fan Duel and Draft Kings are taking away from WIS games. It may be a different game but I am sure it attracts the interest of many of the same people who play WIS, and for  $1 in those games you have the chance to win a $1,000 and if your willing to invest more you can make a lot more cash, unlike WIS games where you are just paying to play. The appeal of winning money is always a major draw to the average sports fan.

The $4.95 "first season" promotion has always been there.  The fact that more first timers are coming to the site and trying the game is a good thing.

Fan Duel and Draft Kings will be gone in a year. Its also the offseason.

There are currently only two public worlds with openings.  Which is way down from before the last update.  It seems like WIS is promoting the game effectively at this point and public worlds are filling quick even in the depths of November.  There will be some more private worlds that may need to go public for a few seasons to get some new users in the fold, but for now it seems pretty positive.....much better than three months ago for sure

Fan Duel and Draft Kings are nothing like HBD.  One is a video game simulation over months and years and the other is gambling quick and dirty one day or weekend.

I didn't say they were the same thing. I said they attract many of the same people. Lot of people who would be willing to playing WIS will not be playing WIS because their free time is spent playing Fan Duel or Draft Kings.

Now there are zero public openings.  Probably been quite a long time since WIS has had that problem, especially in November.
