Is there a pitcher "hold" calculated into the engine?

define "hold" ?

Holds are not tracked in HBD.

Is there no way to keep runners from stealing other than the catchers arm strength and accuracy?

Don't let them get on base?

I find this to be effective.

Yep. They seem to limp a lot for some reason. Kinda like Joe Theismann. I try and look past it.

I find it alarming that no one even seems to know what you are talking about.      I wondered the same thing when I looked over the array of ratings for each pitcher.

I notice they have something called 'makeup', which is kind of like intangibles, I wonder if that is a factor, along with arm strength/accuracy.    You could imagine patience may be a factor as well . .  but it really seems like it should be it's own rating in a system so detailed as to track the quality of five different pitches for each pitcher.

Don't be an idiot. We ALL know what a hold is. If you watch the game, how could you not? Its simply not tracked in HBD.

Speaking of idiots - the HOLD he is talking about is not like the SAVE, it is the pitchers ability to HOLD runners closer to the base, thus limiting his ability to steal,........DUH.

That seems to be the case given mention of the engine. As for the stat, a hold is -- if possible -- more useless than saves.

I am talking about the difference between Kenny Rogers and Randy Johnson.   Both pitched during the same time period, with a variety of catchers.   Johnson had unlimited arm strength and for whatever reason allowed 456 SB in his career.   Soft-tossing Kenny Rogers allowed only 63 SB in his career - while 170 were either CS or picked off.    What player ratings drive this difference in our league?

Pitchers have no influence on stolen base attempts or success rate.

Ok, I get it. A pitcher 'hold' RATING. Wasn't very clear in the original post.

In the end I believe that for SBs it all comes down to a catchers throwing abilities vs the speed ratings/baserunning ratings of the baserunner.
