I explained it when I signed it. Obviously he's overpaid.
First, he was going to be my CF for 3 seasons. His range fell off unexpectedly so that didn't happen.
Second, I didn't jump out with 5/100. I was prepared for 5/80 for my CF for the next 3 seasons. As I recall it, I had him at 5/75 late in FA and got jumped. He was the last available option at that point. I took him back at 5/90 on the 7 AM cycle. And lost him on the 11 AM cycle. I went 5/100 with a small bonus. And got him.
Finally, when I failed in his first season, I had to adjust when his range fell off. I did and won 2 of the next three WS. He played a big role this last season due to injuries/fatigue. He didn't win the WS but he helped. I'll take 2 of 4 WS for the duration of his contract. Circumstances sometimes dictate signings.
