I just looked at OOTP's site. To me, it doesn't look like OOTP's game is as well-developed for online play. You have to play it through a program, so no tablets. The online game (and corresponding forums) don't look well-organized. But if OOTP gets its act together, WIS could have some tough competition. They also have a hockey dynasty game, but it's a game you play all by yourself from a PC or MAC, with no online component.

Anyway...

Fair point about OOTP not being phone or tablet friendly. I suppose that could be a big drawback for some. But, the downside of a browser-based game like HD or HBD is of course the internet requirement. I do like that you can do almost everything in OOTP without internet essentially as you only need it to submit your roster file to a league commissioner (if you play in an online league). On a side note...apparently you can actually play OOTP on a tablet by using a remote desktop app...

I'm not sure that the rest of your points are fair or accurate. Can you elaborate on what you mean about the online game and forums not looking well-organized?

Each online OOTP league has their own website and forum. They are only advertised on the main OOTP forums. Perhaps you were thinking that they are organized and run within the main forums?

Also, the hockey game does have online capability just like OOTP...

OOTP has a significantly larger user base than HBD. There's no comparison really. OOTP forums have almost 35,000 registered members and nearly 4 million posts. In comparison, there have been almost 200,000 posts on the HBD forums. Not sure on number of members, but perhaps that number is in the hundreds or maybe around 1,000 at best? So, it's probably not really fair to say "WIS could have some tough competition" when OOTP is clearly the more popular baseball sim.

I posted in the first place simply wondering why people would play HBD over OOTP. I've been asked several times to join an HBD league and I always declined because OOTP is the better option (imo) if I wanted a baseball sim. But, perhaps no here has really heard of OOTP?

I'm especially curious to hear whether some around these parts have played both OOTP and HBD, but prefer HBD. What makes HBD better besides ability to play exclusively on a phone or tablet?

The answer you're seeking(if you really want an answer) is that we were here when HBD was created. We were playing other games and HBD was created. Personally, I'm not "shopping around" to play a simgame. It's less than .30 a day to play HBD. If OOTP is .23 a day, who gives a ****?

Like Mike said, I've been grooming my one HBD team for almost 20 seasons right now. Don't want to see that go.

I played the hockey version of OOTP as well....... I dunno, just something about it. I can't explain. Maybe too many ratings for the players? The interface is a little wonky too (I say this after HBD got the overhaul from hell.)

Its probably like coke and pepsi. We here all like pepsi. Thats all.

That being said, we have an open world that hasn't had a spot fill in 2 weeks (need 6 new owners) yikes its bad.

Fair enough. You guys are comfortable where you're at. Nothing wrong with that.

Though to be fair, OOTP is only .11 a day. ;)

If anyone does want to check out OOTP, they are releasing v17 in about a week. I'm helping with beta testing, and it's pretty friggin' sweet.

I played OOTP long ago. I thought Strat-o-matic was better. Looking at the web site it looks like OOTP has evolved since I last played it. I personally like looking at the cards of Strat-o-matic instead of the number system of OOTP.

This looks to be my last season playing HBD. I still have 2 credits left but I don't feel like playing.. It's not the money but I think I have lost the desire to play HBD. I think it came from the long layover between last season and the most recent season. The lengthy hours of trying to recruit owners for the new season wore on me, I don't want to do that again.. Once we started playing the new season I just never caught the desire, I was hoping it would come back but after a 100 games I still did not have the desire to play so I decided to hang it up.

I can see where you are coming from plague. Have one world that has been in rollover for a while now, went public and still no new entries, one world that is just starting the World Series and I dare say may be on its last season ever.

This.......... This is not good.

The fact that you just stumped for OOTP indicates you weren't really seeking an answer.

As for the .19 difference per day, I'm pretty sure that still falls into "Who gives a ****?" While I'd probably fight you if you tried to take a buck fifty(a week of HBD vs OOTP) from me, it would be on principle only. And if you were built like a linebacker, I'd still have to option to say "**** it, it's only a buck fifty."

I am actually currently debating which to join and I really want to pick HBD, but I'm looking for reason why. It seem OOTP isn't as good with their online leagues....is that fair to say? They don't appear to be in one centralized location.
