I recruited a friend to play HBD, and he just finished his first season in World Bench. He took over a crappy team, which meant his first season was a dumpster fire. He just asked about joining a brand new world, and I don't know anything about doing that.

How often does WifS generate new HBD worlds, and how do you get into one?

Not often at all. We're having a tough enough time filling the already created worlds.

It's hard to believe, with so many openings, that anyone has to take a crappy team.

I agree, but he wanted to play in the same world with me and he a) lives in the Philly area and wanted an East team so he could pick Philly and b) wanted to build his own team so it would be more of a challenge.

I think we were down to 3 or 4 openings when he decided to play, too, so there weren't a lot of options.

how do new worlds work?

I assume it generates teams and you just pick a team, rather than having a huge draft to fill all the rosters at 6 different levels.

He's done scoresheet fantasy baseball for 20+ years if anybody is familiar with those, and I think he's expecting a new HBD world to be like a new scoresheet league where you get to draft the entire original team.

Players are assigned. No draft.

I definitely can admire that he wants to build his own team and I would counter that with this: with all the open franchises and hell, even replacement owners needed, he has the power to do this from scratch with some of the less adequate franchises available in these instances.

HBD is an investment. It's nice to win when you start but I actually like crappy teams vs good ones, as long as you don't have a ton of bad contracts. I took over a good team in WIB and it was sooooo boring. Set lines, set pitchers, win 90-100 games. *yawn*. I find having a crappy team with money gives a better HBD experiance. Scouting and bidding on IFA's, looking at what FA's will help, scouting the draft and knowing it will make a difference. Although it takes a while to see the dividends I find the franchise building part of HBD the most fun.
