Advanced scouting???? Topic

To be clear, I never said a change NEEDED to be made. I just think if they ever do, people will get ******, and they won't have a right to.

And the reason to change improvement patterns isn't to "kill a strategy". It's to make the game more in-depth and realistic. Whenever any part of a simulation game becomes completely predictable and linear, I'd say it's an area to look to improve. Because there is very little about baseball that is predictable and linear, especially player development.

I have no problem with the strategy. It's a viable way some people have learned to play a computer game. But I'd also have no problem if they changed that aspect of the game to simulate real baseball a little better.

great posts jtrinsey. some good ideas there if WIS wants to make the game better and more in-depth in both how they use advanced scouts and how players improve

Well, you must be new because people get ****** with every change. Mostly because WifS goes from 0 to 60 in a split second. It wouldn't matter if this game wasn't a dynasty game. You're locked in for up to 5 seasons on players and, oddly enough, that's how long it takes to go from 0 to 20 with budgeting. Change is good. It's just bad when you cripple an owner for a full calendar year. So owners drop teams and start somewhere else. Which sucks for HBD as a whole.

That said, I like the idea of ADV being tied to current ratings of other players in your world. It's not that big of a deal but it would hurt/help when making trades. If all I really knew was Player A hit .327 with 18 homers, I wouldn't know if he over/underperformed when evaluating a trade. Nice touch, IMO.

If you have decent enough h.s. and college scouting, you can also simply keep all past drafts in a spreadsheet. When trading for a player, it is helpful to see how he projected with your more reliable scouts. Yet another reason advanced scouting is not needed.

You don't even need to keep a spreadsheet if you trust your drafting ability. I mark anyone I draft in the first 5 rounds. I think I've only had 3 players drafted later than that make the bigs.

Was playing with my pinch-hitting hierarchy for the playoffs.  Now I (and most?) always manually set my rest, def rep and manager settings at the ML league level and usually do the same at the minor league levels by the ASB.  But for pinch hitting I "save recs."

From the help: Clicking 'Show Recs' will utilize an algorithm based on situation, offensive ratings, primary positions, and secondary positions. This will generate the recommended hierarchy based on the data available (which is based on your franchise's Advanced Scouting Budget and any modified position assignments). To save the recommendations, please click 'Save Recs.'

So maybe (at least to some degree) advanced scouting already does play a role in close-game situations.

Interesting, but almost certainly inaccurately stated.  Surely the automated generation of rest, defensive replacement charts, etc. is based on the players' attributes, not on scouts' projections of what skills they may one day possess.

No, it's not.    If you don't set projected positions for each player(and defensive/rest heirarchy), the engine has to figure out where to place players on it's on.

If you are a guy who hates that some people go 0 in ADV and get away with it, how about this idea? CURRENT ratings show up as ? for all ratings and all players until the player's 4th year? THAT would make ADV scouting VERY important, I believe.

Not sure if it would make game any more or less realistic, and I haven't considered other consequences. Just throwing it out there.
i dont think they should change anything...every strategy has its pros and cons...you takes risks either way...i personally feel more comfortable with 20 adv scouting...but am intrigued with a veteran team to try to lower it and move the money elsewhere...just havent been able to pull the trigger yet...old habits die hard i guess...

for a long time i have thought that we should be able to assign our coaches (this has to do with development i promise) to one attribute for each player to work on year round...it could be power or vs. rhp...or whatever...then you could have more improvement throughout the year/career...

i agree that very little about baseball is predicatable and linear...one of the huge problems with the game is its consistency...every young player drafted has a terrible glove...commits tons of errors...and gets better over time...there are plenty of young players in baseball who have great gloves and the bat comes later...but in hbd you draft a guy with a projected 92 glove...and have to wait 5 seasons for it to go from 60 to 92...not every player is that far from projections when they start playing professionally..

i agree...and when i am going to make a trade with someone...i always check out there adv scouting as well to see what i think he might be seeing on his end...
