In SLB, every pitcher has an in-game fatigue percentage that counts to zero as the pitcher tires, making him less effective. Is there a similar mechanism for HBD pitchers? Do they ever get tired? Is there any downside to cranking up pitch count settings other than them needing more rest before their next appearance?

From what I understand they get tired during the game, probably past a certain PC. Though others believe all 100% is equal and they stay that way all game.

Pitchers definitely get tired as the game goes on. If you don't believe it, take a skilled relief pitcher with 10 stamina and let him pitch the entire game and see how he does.

agreed, what the "others" believe simply doesn't make any sense

Yes, the HBD engine was initially brought over from SLB, and this aspect of in-game fatigue came with it. Despite many HBD engine updates since then, it still works in the same fashion.

I remember some discussion on this fairly early in the life of HBD, and people throwing out numbers showing that X starter doesn't get worse in the later innings, and in fact maybe was better, but it's really so difficult to get a meaningful sample, especially for the later innings.  And further, it would take some serious work to figure out how pitchers do when they are at a given pitch count.

There has to be in game fatigue, or as has previously been alluded to, we'd have heard of instances of someone all of a sudden starting their closer in a game 7 and getting a complete game shutout of him, or something like that.

How do know he won't? He might pitch well but just be tired as hell afterward and take a long time to recover. Never tried it myself. Nonetheless I believe in game fatigue does occur.

Anybody have anything halfway definitive for pitch counts? Just guessing, I'd think 100 stamina would be around 130, making 50 stamina 65 pitches etc...Does anybody else use similar PCs?

I personally use as a good guidline:

Take a pitchers stamina and add 10 pitches to it.  Obviously not exact science, but pretty close.  A 50 stamina guy 60 PC, 60 stamina 70 PC, etc.

Depends on his durability and how often you want him to pitch. 100-30 can go 130+ and probably pitch every 4 days. But 100-15 will take longer to recover so lowering the PC will be needed.

* 2nd number is durability.
