greatest pitcher ever right? one problem is that his durability is 0. how can/should he be used? how many innings can he pitch with a 0 durability?

He could be a closer.  I have a guy with 4 durability that throws about 15-20 pitches max per game.

I though they were eliminating the 0 Dur pitchers.

Check out this thread. A_ersberg is right. Your guy should be among the best 9th-inning, save situation only, 35-40 IP closers in the World.

We had a guy in our league with a 4 DU/80 ST, and he's one of the best closers in league history. He makes about 50 appearances per season, maybe 40-45 IP.

I did too. I thought they said in a Dev Chat that these types of "unrealistic" players were being weeded out of the program/system.

Weeded out means that in a couple of years they won't be seen again.  Until then, surprise!

That's like a cruel joke. Get a pitcher with those ratings and slab on a zero durability.

I have a good zero Durability pitcher in Boston Tea Party.  I get 16 to 22 innings out of him a year.  www.whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx

hate the idea of using him as a closer, i'd feel any instance in which he was used in a 3 run game would be a waste

love him as a starter, a pitcher that good with stamina that high you can get alot of innings per start

there won't be many starts but it seems to be the best way to get the most use out of him...

if we had more control over how relievers are used (i.e. in high leverage situations) i would be all for using him in relief...

This just doesn't make any sense to me.

You hate the idea of using him as a closer because he may pitch in some games to nail down a 3-run lead in the 9th, but have no issue with wasting him for 6+ innings against a scrub team you could beat anyway?

Or are you suggesting only use him against the good teams, so that instead of maxing out at maybe ~9 starts, he only gets 5 or 6?

Either way, seems to make much more sense to me to have him as a shut-down closer, and this is coming from someone who (under most circumstances) doesn't appreciate or use designated closers.

zbrent - i should have been more clear.  i understand that there will be starts where his use will be sub-optimal but i also see that with him closing....at that point it comes down to where can i get more innings from him...

although it may just be my bias against the closer role and it's use in modern baseball...

BTW i'm curious how and where this player was acquired?  If he wasn't there when the world was created where does a guy like this go in the draft, or how much did he fetch in the IFA market?
