Today's Update: Changes to SP Pitch Counts Topic

It appears that in tandems you can still set the pitch count at 5 on your starting pitcher. At least I am still able to.
Well I'll be damned, you're right.

Ha, not only was is a poorly thought-out change, it was even more poorly implemented!

What?  An update that didn't work as intended?   Unheard of!!!

But it was right on time...

It has been changed now.

However now both members of a tandem must be set to 40 pitches. What a disaster.

Disaster: hurricane, earthquake, tsunami, electing a Socialist

This doesn't qualify.

Me having to go back and switch my pitching rotations for spring training 3 times in the last hour = disaster.

Don't forget the Salt Lake City Polygamists.

The last two weeks = disaster.  Luckily, I can still recover in this HAK division.

Don't drop the ball?
This warranted an "LOL" from me while reading through this thread.

I agree with both new and Mike here-- I liked having that crutch, but really, it's my own damn fault when it happens.

Another place where the 5/5 PC came in legitimately handy is the situation in a playoff series where you want one guy to start the game after the next if you win the next game, and another guy to start if you lose (very common both in HBD and real life, most common in game 4 of a 5-game series).  In the past you could slot one pitcher, then set to 5/5 and switch to the other if you needed to, and if you let the opponent know what you're doing in advance it's not unethical IMO.  You just don't have any option for conditional starter choice in a playoff rotation any more.

I agree completely with this.  If you're above board with that, great.

The 5-pitch switch for an advantage is "gaming the system".  If it puts a stop to that, it gets my vote.  Win the game as it is intended to be played.

Lost in this is that it also helps when you take over an abandoned team and can make a few roster changes, but you are still locked into the next games SP (unless you Demote him). I tend to set the (already massively) fatigued SP's pitch count to 5, then allow for fresh arms to take over. Eliminating injury risk, expediting a return to normalcy for the team, etc. Taking that option away won't have an effect on every team, but it was a very helpful tool in "righting the ship".

Here's a problem that I have with this:

Scenario: 7 game playoff series.  I'm down two games to one in the series.  Let's assume that the previous playoff series went the limit, so I don't have the luxury of having my rotation set as I would have preferred.  I've got SP3 scheduled to pitch game 4, with SP4 on deck for game 5.

If I win game 4, the series is tied 2-2 and we go to game 5 with my SP4 taking the mound.  I'm fine with that because I know that win or lose I'll have a fully rested SP1 available for game 6, and a fully rested SP2 available for game 7 (if needed).  But if I lose game 4, I'm down 3-1 and I may want to bring my SP1 back on short rest to start game 5.  Prior to this change, I could tandem my SP4 and SP1, with SP4 on a 5/5 PC and most likely removed after one hitter.  Not pretty or desirable, but it was a way to handle this scenario.  Now, with this change, I'm stuck with SP4 on a 40/40 PC, and even if I set his pull rating to 5, a fair amount of damage could be done before I'm able to bring my SP1 into the game.
