Asking people to babysit a team Topic

I will miss most of one season but would like to keep my team, so I am thinking of asking for someone to babysit the team for me while I am away.  Is this something that is done?  Is it a good idea?  How would the world (and I) police this, i.e. what if the person comes in and trades away all my prospects for peanuts?  And how do would I know I could trust them to run a quality draft since they really have no interest in the team?

Yes, it's definitely done. If you've been around awhile you probably know some people on the site that you trust to run the team for awhile without running it into the ground. If you don't know anyone, maybe check the mentors list and see if anyone is willing to do it...those people are most likely fairly trustworthy.

Also, announce to the league that your team is being babysat so they can keep an eye on any suspicious or crappy trading that gets done involving your team.

Thanks for the advice!

i've had my teams babysat for and have babysat teams many times. i used to do it in simhockey like it was a job.
find someone you trust to give your password/access to your personal info to.
i can't remember ever hearing of someone who had their team sabotaged by someone who was watching their teams, but it may have happened.

as far as the draft goes- leave specific instructions about what you value in prospects and if the person is good they will do their best to set your preferences up

I believe tecwrg did this by creating aliai (the celverly named tecwrg2 and tecwrg3) and giving the passwords to the alias accounts (with no personal info attached) to the babysitters.

Seems like a lot of work, but it gets around a lot of the (legitimate) trust issues with personal info on the internet.

Or just ask Admin to transfer control of the franchise.

Jeez, you guys and your aliai...  Just do it the easy way.

not for nothing, but it doesn't really have to be a situation where you give out your personal info if you don't want it to be.
you can change/delete your profile name/address/etc and then just change your wis password for the babysitter to use.
then change the stuff back to the original stuff once you get back.
i haven't had my real name/addy/etc on mine since the day i started on wis, i don't think

like i said, as long as you trust giving this person control of your teams and they don't abuse it, it shouldn't be a big deal at all

+1

Admin is usually pretty good about this, as long as it's a weekday.
