What if trading wasn't allowed? Topic

I think the point is that everyone has a temptation to tank.  The players with integrity don't.  A league like this would increase the temptation because the draft become the PRIMARY way to build you team, not just one way.  I think you have to have something in place to counterbalance this temptation.

I don't think trades are a relatively minor aspect, at least not in my experience. I'm always active on the trade market, and so are most of the guys I play against.

I think you've got to limit losing, because trading allows you to make short-term corrections, and removing that avenue only increases the importance of the draft and international free agency -- which provide primarily long-range benefits. I'm starting to think, however, that prospect payroll shouldn't be limited. That would go a long way toward curbing any excesses in the ML free agent market.

Also, the Rule 5 draft would likely take on added importance in this league.

I agree. No limit on prospect budget.

Instead of putting max contract limits, what if you put a 3 year limit on the length of free agent contracts?

Probably only apply to players in the league free agent pool, not your own players you are resigning.
I've heard some worlds require the owner to kick in a $25 GC if they sign a player to a contract over a certain amount.

They get it back if they're in the world at the end of the contract.

It goes towards recruiting a good replacement if they leave.

Might not be a bad idea on starting a new world and have no trading. But I would agree that limit on contracts or payroll would help. Nice concept though.

For one, you wouldn't have any "why is my trade being vetoed" versus "that is such a horrible trade, veto it" threads and arguments popping up on a regular basis.

And teams should have good minor league teams. No bare systems.

If/When WIS allows the creation of other leagues, it would be cool to see this made a reality, assuming there are 32 people willing to pay $24.95 to make it happen.

apollo, gee, I wonder what got you thinking about a league with no trades?

This is not true.  It would be just as easy to sign type-a FA and give up your picks with or with out trades.  In fact it may lead to more bare systems as there is no way to quickly acquire prospects and teams would be tempted to fill spots through FA as there are no other options.
