you already said why, mike. cause they like $. they'll take the funds they're getting for the alias' new 4 pack and then boot em only if the person screws up and gets called out on it.

I think they do that by IP address.
No, they have basic credit card information, I believe. I had a case where they actually told me that the 2 users in question were in the same houshold but the teams were purchased with different cards under different names. I have a website and take cc purchases--I have visibility to names/addresses, etc..but not the entire credit card #. I imagine its similar with WIS.

Well, obviously, I have no idea how WifS is set up.  But I've been told they do not have credit card numbers.  Quite honestly, it's none of my business so, if they lied, I'm not overly distraught that they weren't completely truthful about it.   Nonetheless, I don't think they'll monitor credit cards, home addresses, IP addresses or posting habits to forbid owners from creating aliases.    They'll deal with it when they have to deal with it.   And, as I said, I'm not so sure I disagree.

Yeah, 31 other owners pay to play the game too.   What you do affects them.   Otherwise, WifS wouldn't even have the very loose rules governing the game and owner conduct/participation.   You're not playing HBD in a vacuum.

And grow a thicker skin.  HBD has been around for about 4 years.   People have seen a lot.   A new owner joining a bunch of worlds and signing old players to long term deals has been done.   And it wasn't good.    I think there is some fairly well-known owner(although not well-known enough for me to remember) who has done this several times with an alias.

No trouble yet.  But some of the decisions/actions are a precursor for trouble historically.
It depends how you define trouble ;)  I have a real problem with him signing a 37 year old to a 5 year deal with a no trade clause, let alone one that will pay the guy $7.5 million in his last year

A lot of companies prefer not to store credit card information because it opens them up for liabilities if they have a security breach.

Audits get a lot easier to pass when you say that CC information is stored off-site with a company that specializes in it.

All they have to do is look at names and addresses, essentially.  If a guy uses the same CC, then his name and address would have to match as well.

But anyway, beating a dead horse now, so I'll let it go.  It just seems that with all the outcry and potential problems aliases cause (obviously not really a huge issue in SIM, but potentially damaging in HBD), WIS would want to take SOME kind of measure.  Especially if the actions of one alias could cause some of those 31 other owners in his world to not come back.

A couple of things got lost in here.

1.  lesliechow is an alias.   No one seems to recall the owner that did the exact same thing in previous summers but he did exist.  And, as tomhighway pointed out, there's another owner doing the same thing.    Whether or not they damage worlds remains to be seen.   History says they will.

2.  dmurphy104 runs a porn site.   He should probably give all of us free memberships.

dmurph's site is gay porn.

OK.   He should reduce your annual membership fee.

agreed

Happens every summer.  No reason to believe this summer will be any different.

leslie (and you cant read this if you did block me so someone please repost)

Nobody would have kept this up if you werent so defensive about it.  I asked you a simple question in world chat when you first joined...
oriolemagic Southern Bells 7/30/2010 10:19 AM welcome leslie. Based on your profile I am assuming you had a different username and created a new account?

You then started with it right away...

lesliechow Bison 7/30/2010 6:15 PM I like the game, take it seriously (but not too seriously), and have the time and the means to play as much as I want to. I've found that there seems to be some kind of rampant paranoia on this site about alias persons, and I'm not sure why.
lesliechow Bison 7/30/2010 6:15 PM What's the point to being su****ious? It's the internet. People misrepresent themselves constantly on all sites, generally speaking. Just relax and enjoy the game, and stop worrying about some non-existant phantom lurking around the corner.

Then you start signing contracts that seem a little odd.  Again a simple quesiton about it and you blow your gasket.  That alone will make people wonder what is going on.  If it was an honest thing and you didnt blow up about it we would have offered advice on how signing 37 year olds to 5 year contracts with a no trade clause isnt a good idea.  Instead of saying, yes I am new and I have some things to learn, you freaked out and told us to mind our own business.  That is what draws attention to yourself.

8/6/2010 2:13 PM
K, leslie...maybe you don't owe anyone anything in these forums, but humour us...why would you sign a 37 year old to a big, 5-year, backloaded contract like that if you plan to stay on as owner?  Either you're a lying alias and gonna bail, or you're an idiot who has no idea how to run a team.  So which is it?
8/6/2010 2:22 PM
I'm just trying to figure out why he knows all about the paranoia around alias's since he's only been around since April.  Either he spent hours searching through old forum posts and reading up on it or he's been accused of this multiple times - which is quite impressive in 4 months.
