Can someone explain to me this guy Topic

I am new to HBD and from what I have read and seen I just dont see how this guy is pitching so well.  He is currently 8-1 with a 2.30 ERA in a hitters park no less.  Just held my potent offense to 1 run.

I just wonder what I am missing because obviously its something

He looks to be pitching out of his mind, but it looks like he has overachieved his whole career so i dunno lol

His only real weakness is his vsL split.  Good control, decent vsR split, and 4 above average pitches with a fair fifth pitch.

He's solid.  Not a SP1 on most staffs, but a solid inning-eating SP3.

So do most people consider mid 60's good enough to get by?  I just found it hard to believe someone with splits of 45/65 and no dominant pitch (highest 78) could dominate like that, especially playing in a hitters park

With 4 strong pitches and an average 5th pitch, he's about a 4.00-4.50 ERA pitcher, which is about what his career numbers show.

Good control, good pitches.  Don't discount his (comparatively) good glove, either.  To have put up those career numbers, however, I'd imagine he's generally had a very good defense behind him.

You could be the only person in the history of HBD to look at a pitchers glove rating and comment on it.

His next post will revolve around catcher's range.
Actually I look at the pitcher's range before I get to the glove.

Catcher's range i don't give a damn about as long as they've got a bat and an arm.

The only thing different this season with the rest of his career is he's been giving up homers at an unsustainably low rate. It happens the other way too, look at his season #5

He has decent control, decent RH split, keeps the ball down and doesn’t have one really bad pitch. I'd be happy to have him in the #4 or #5 spot

Sometimes the game just doesn't add up...maybe he's being propped up by stuff like a good defense, high PC catcher, pitcher's ballpark (I have no idea what Monterrey's effects are), but that stuff only goes so far.  Based on his ratings, I would stash him in AAA and use him as injury insurance, because he really shouldn't be very good at all.  I would expect his career ERA to be about a full run higher, and his run over the past 2.5 seasons is particularly inexplicable.
