Commishes of rolling private worlds... Topic

As I look through the classifieds, it seems to me that all types of teams and worlds are available.  I'm bumping the Yaz thread to the top 5-6 times a day, but whenever I look, it's half way down the screen.  This has been one of the busiest rollovers I've ever seen, and I'm not noticing anyone taking any teams.
I'd be curious to know how newer owners sort through the available teams, because there are so many leagues looking for owners right now.

Since I've been here for awhile, I look first for leagues with owners I know and like. Then I look for teams in cities that interest me and that present the sort of challenge I'm looking for. I think it'd be confusing as all hell if I didn't "know" anybody, and just had to look at all the available teams and take my chances.

But supply and demand are definitely out of whack right now, as they often are this time of year.

I think the best way for WiS to help fill these openings would be to offer some sort of incentive for owners to do a world swap ("three of our guys will join your world if three of yours join ours"). But I suppose getting those worlds filled is already an incentive, no?

I think any WORLD that has 10 openings in a season should be abolished..There's a definite issue when you have that many people dropping out.

There's no reason to believe the other 22 owners would join other worlds.  So, if they do that, WifS has screwed themselves out of $500+.   No reason to do that.

I'd NEVER accept this into one of my worlds but if WifS wanted to get creative, they could work on allowing owners to carry a 40 man roster with them to worlds that would accept them.   IOW, I could carry my 40 man from my "sitting for 3 months" world to another world that "just needs two".  The rest of the team would have to be randomly generated(and the strength would be determined by the strength of that 40 man roster).   An owner would get to keep his team but, if he wanted to carry his 2nd year prospect, he'd have to add him to the 40.   This would prevent ridiculous, traveling powerhouses and would allow some worlds to fill.

I think some worlds would accept this and it would be a viable option for the worlds I previously described.  These owners would likely replace ransacked franchises.   Maybe WifS could even charge a $15 transfer fee in addition to the team purchase.

I wonder what is wrong with a world when I see that it  has 7 or more openings.  That's between a quarter and a fifth of the owners leaving.

I think you'd be surprised how much some people would pay for this feature.

I think most would prefer to sit there and wait for fresh meat instead of competing against other strong teams and knowledgeable owners.

I'm not sure I'd want to bring in some strange team from another world to make my world roll, but I wouldn't mind seeing that feature added just so that a world or two could be put down to make up for the addition of new worlds.  I love run-on sentences.

Fresh meat?  As in a noob to trade rape?  That's nowhere near the reason I wouldn't want to bring in an outside team.  How about historical stats?

I've looked at a few different worlds and a lot of the teams available are pretty crappy or are average at best and have teams in each division that are fully stocked at all levels..  Another thing, you look at these teams and their history and the year to year owners for these crap teams have become victims of trade raped in alot of cases and dont return and leave the team worst off then when they started.
Why is it that a 109 win team in Belle (you're welcome for the free advertising, Blanch) is sitting with no takers?

The last team I picked up was a terrible team in a good world.  I wanted to get an early draft pick without tanking.  There is the challenge of taking a perennial underachieving team and turning it into a winner.  I'd be much more proud of having won a championship with a team that I brought up from the basement myself than cherrypicking a team that's a prepackaged contender, and I know that there are others out there who share that same sentiment.  I don't believe for a second that the reason that it's so slow right now is because all of the worlds in rollover right now are unbalanced worlds in which the available teams have no chance to make into the elite level.  It's slow right now because of the reasons tec listed back on page one of this thread, and WiS should have had the foresight not to create a bunch of new worlds just before a traditionally slow time of year.

shobob, I've made a point of picking up terrible teams to repair.   I can also say I've made a lot of enemies in those worlds because I didn't take the only terrible team(just the worst I could find) and I've objected long and loud when I see how my team got so bad and how the holdover owners are intent on putting another team in that condition.   The owner winning back to back WS and 120 games every season doesn't like it when you say "Dude, stop trading your old, expensive players to the n00bs for his first round draft picks.  He doesn't know any better but you do.  Stop it."   And, because there are others doing the same, albeit less successfully, they join the berating of you for telling people "how to run their franchise".

You're being naive if you don't think owners aren't interested in joining those worlds.    I don't mind the hate but a lot of owners either don't want the fight, don't like the drama or can't handle the insults.

I guess you didn't notice my edit:  "in a good world".   I read my post and thought that part was missing.

You're right, I didn't see it.   I'm not sure there should be many terrible teams in "good" worlds.    Bad ones, maybe.   But not terrible.   An owner would have to try really hard to make his team terrible.  But, with some help, it can happen in no time.
9/10/2010 2:31 PM
OK, maybe terrible is too strong a word.  I just wanted the draft position more or less, without the tanking.  There has to be a team that finishes last.  It's not easy to get a first overall pick!  Funny thing is, I couldn't get my scouts to see the best player in the draft (typical), and I ended up drafting a guy with signability issues on purpose for the type D pick, so I never did end up with a first overall pick!
