DIAH never met an opening (known or unknown) that he didn't like.

I just want to say that public worlds get a bad rap in these forums. I used to be one of the people who looked down on public worlds until I was convinced by an owner I like and respect very much (pstrnutbag44) to take over an abandonment. I then won a World Series with the team, which gave me no choice but to re-up the next season.

Now, that world, Clarkson, has the best blog in HBD (seriously, the Clarkson Chronicle, by cactusmaz is truly outstanding) and a developing core of young owners who are learning the game from ethical, interested veterans. Foxx, which has a 50+ page thread in this forum dedicated to it's problems, has also been an outstanding experience thanks to tropicana & the others from the original rescue crew's efforts to drain the cesspool and fix the problems.

I wish more veteran owners would join public worlds - en masse - and then help enforce ethical, honest game play while teaching new HBD owners how much fun this game can be. Private worlds certainly have their perks - however, all but a few are riddled with similar issues that public worlds get dumped on for (i.e. aliases, trade rape, super teams). And while it's always sad to see a 3rd season owner announce "I've been invited to join Private World X - see ya!" it's also gratifying because all private worlds (especially those occupied by the snootiest of private world players) need "young" owners to replace their 1 or 2 every few seasons.

Playing in public worlds is also good for me as a member of the Mentor Program (tecwrg deserves everyone's thanks for starting this); I'm doing less 1-on-1 and much more group work - I know which 5 new owners are asking questions and interested and getting better. That helps me when private world commishes ask "hey, what about X?" when they are looking to fill open slots.

Somebody has made a 180 degree turn from "Let them rot!!!"

I'll agree that public worlds have generally been getting an undeserved bad rap since the early days of HBD.  I've been in a handful of public worlds (since given the right to turn private) that were FAR better than some of the truly f'd up private worlds that I've been in as a replacement owner.

Private vs. public really doesn't matter as much as the commitment of the 32 owners within.  That's what makes the world, not it's private/public status.

The biggest difference, IMO, is who can get in.   You can have a great public world with two openings.    And an alias can take both of them by timing the rollover.

That is true for public worlds.

It's also true for private worlds who post in the forums: "Quality world, many great teams available.  Password is Harry Baulz."

I've been calling them 'tard worlds since the very first one.

Just curious, I assume not many private world commish's send out mass invites to people that have never played so without public worlds how does a guy ever play his 1st season? From what I read on these forums looks private worlds face the same BS as public ones. At least 1 soxfan in every world, more Clarkson Chronicles, less "private world only" snobbery, and beers all 'round would make all worlds better places .

Public worlds serve a purpose.   Doesn't mean they're the chic places to be.

In a response to a "whining" ticket about too many worlds being created in the last 3 months, WiS told me "We have created no more than one new world per month, and that was after a year of no new world creations."  How is it that there are 4 new worlds in season 1, and one new world that just finished it's first season.  Considering that one season takes three months, how is that not a lie?  Are any of those new worlds as a result of a merger?  If any of them are, is it wise to create new worlds when others are being merged?  Why do they lie to their loyal customers?

Isn't that a question for WifS?

World                   -        Date of Start of Budget Distribution
Upper Deck        -         6/27
Josh Gibson       -        7/2
Steinbrenner      -        8/13
Gary Carter         -         9/4

So technically 1 per month is accurate.
