tankerwood, you don't play in a vaccum. When you're losing 114, someone is winning those games. You aren't competitive. Teams that aren't competitive are bad for a world. If 90 wins puts you in 1st place, you're in first place and the playoffs. Winning 10 more or 20 more doesn't matter except for playoff seeding. A bye is nice but not necessary.
The difference between us is simple: I think you should try to win BL games whether you're a contender or not. You think it's only necessary if you can win enough to be a contender. I'm sure I can win 70 today and 90 next season. You're a lot more comfortable winning 50 today and 100 next season.
Your way is fine. Just don't think it's some noble way to build a team. It's just tanking. It's the easy way to build a team.
Last time I looked the game was called Hardball DYNASTY, not Hardball single season. Tanking is losing games on purpose, by doing things like playing Tryout Camp guys in the bigs while better plays sit in your minors. Cutting payroll so you can sign a few top prospects and trading veterans for more prospects, while still playing your best talent at the big league level, is called rebuilding. While I only won 49 games that first year, I did evrything I could, WITHOUT MORTGAGING MY FUTURE, to win as many as I could. And everyone in the league got to play me 10 times so they each had equal shots at picking up the smae number of wins against me. If I had l;et all my players go to 0(0) and played the second half of the season like that, I see your argument, I have given the teams I play later in the year a bigger advantage over me than the early ones. I did not do that.
